    '04 Corolla Rims

    Hey everyone,

I've never gotten rims or ordered rims before so please bear with me if I sound like a real beginner... I have an 04 Corolla S and I'm thinking of changing the rims from the stock 15" to a 17". Would I need to do anything to the car like lowering it or anything? If I have 17" rims and I don't lower the car will it look good and will the tires not be rubbing against the wheel well? Im just planning to get the rims and not lower my car and hopefully it'll look good.

Also, when I buy rims... meaning the wheel itself, that includes the tire too right? I'm just thinking of going to a local place that has nice rims similar to the TRD ones.

Sorry if I sound dumb... This is the first time I've worked with changing around wheels.

    THanks

yujp if u do change the rims w/o lowering it, u shouldn't rub cuz of the clearance. but if u lower it, or planning to, get 17x7 orr 17x7.5 (i forogt which one cuz i have 18x7.5) w/ an offset of +40 or +42. u might rub a little w/ 40 if u have tein s-tech cuz that's what's happenign w/ "thedruid"s car

I lowered my S with the H-tech's(lowering springs) and got 215/45/17(tire sizes for rims) and only rub when i got a lot of weight in the back. If you were to leave it at the stock height things should be fine.

Go to a reputable tire place though. Ask around for people in your area, they should direct you in the right direction. I got mine at America's Tire Company (so cali) and got an awesome deal on my rims and tires. Look under the suspension area for more info on lowering and some tire info. Good luck!!!

Ok thanks for the help... I'm thinking of getting new 17" rims without lowering my car. I've seen on some sites and in some places that they sell a package deal, which would include 4 wheels and tires. A package goes for around $750-800... is that the price range I should expect? I haven't really checked out any local places here yet.

I've also read up on some sites that say by having bigger wheels, it'll decrease the gas mileage? Would having a 17" from a 15" pose any problems to my 04 corolla - in terms of steering, rubbing, weight, etc.? Again, I don't want to lower my car.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

it sohuldn't be a problem. in terms of weight, usually geting bigger rims means the rims becomes heavier so ure car might feel a lil slower juss cuz u need more force to spin the wheels.

ya what the above poster said. You don't have to worry too much about decreased gas mileage. They have that sticky in the suspension area that tells you how your Mileage may be a smigen off.

As for prices? It sounds good but it all depends on what type of rims and tires too. You may get some great tires and crappy rims or vice-versa. Like i said keep a look out in the suspension area or do a topic search. Everyone has different opinions but you'll usually see some of the same tires/rims popping up.

I did notice with the tires i got and the bigger rims i gripped the road a hell of a lot better then the stock toyota tires i had on there. But at the same time, the stickier or better grip on the tire the quicker the wear. Depending on the area you are in check the wear rating, temp rating, etc. This will help in determing a good set of tires for your beautiful new rims!!

but i would recommend lowering  it changes the handling and the whole feel of the car ...but thats my opinion

I've been planning to get some rims and tires myself. 17s on our car looks small because our car is so big so I'll leave you to think about that... I've been going to tirerack.com to get my information about what tires im going to get. Seems like i'll end up with some Kuhmo Ecsta 711 because of the low wear, lesser noise after 10k miles, its cheap for a college student, and plus it has alot of good reviews.

    Heres some links:
Read about Tire Dimensions and how to Calculate :
    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/general/size.jsp
Some wheel sites: They have some pretty good package deals and if you live in California, you dont have to pay tax (keep that in mind)
    www.wheelsnext.com
    www.wheelmax.com

I'd probably lower your car if i were you though... If you dont want much of a drop, go Eibach or TRD springs. Dont forget about the cost to install springs also. Also, you shouldnt worry about rubbing on these springs. Check out the parts database on vvt-i.net for that stuff.

Ya, i didnt know much about cars either... You'll learn alot from this forum :D .
