03+ 1zz into 98..?

If I ever wear out my engine (I'm shooting for at *least* 200k..hopefully it'll run forever, or until I want/can afford to replace it -- but if it breaks, it breaks), I might drop in an '03 engine/ecu to replace it.

The main questions:
Will the intake manifold, intake, exhaust manifold, motor mounts, etc all bolt up properly?
Is the ECU a PITA to install/replace (manual tranny)?
Will a supercharger fit with a smaller radiator and a hump in the hood?

Just thinking..heh

didn't you say you were doing a 2zz into your corolla? why a 1zz now..it's nearly the same engine..plus maybe 5 hp which wont even matter..

not to mention the hassle for that extra 5hp...

all the damn wiring changes and stuff... I'd rather hang myself.

I didn't say I was going to do a 2zz swap -- I have thought about it, but it looks too annoying.

As I said in my original post, if this engine dies, I was thinking of swapping in an 03 1zz. If it's that complicated, then I won't. The only reason I would is so I could supercharge it with less problems than trying to do it on mine..

Again, I wouldn't be swapping just for 5hp...it would be either after this breaks, or if I can afford to s/c it (which won't be for a while). If the wiring is really that bad, then it probably won't happen.

Any one have an answer. I'm planning on dropping a 01 corolla engine into a 99 prizm. Any difficulties? I'm going full stand alone ecu and ignition. That should cure most of my problems but programming the ecu to control vvti is going to be fun....

reading comprehension > you. he doesn't want to do the swap to gain power. He is anticipating needing a new engine in the future and would like to replace his 98 1zz-fe with the 03+ 1zz-fe. Got it now?

Cadet - I doubt that it would be very difficult. As long as you have the whole engine/ecu/harness I would imagine it should be quite simple. As far as I know, the only difference between the 2 engines is internal. I don't think anything external is different at all. Should bolt right in.

the difference is the bigger throttle body on the 03...as far as i know, that should be close to where all the 5 hp comes from...but i could be wrong. Definitly not really worth the hassle, just turbo ur replacment 98 1ZZ :) youll make more power than the blown 1ZZ people anyway :)

now as far as the new 2003 engine goes... you wouldnt really need to get a brand spankin new engine.... unless you really want to... you can just get a used one with low miles on it that is in good condition. try ebay for that hehe

The engine will go right on in. Like they said bigger throttle body is the only main difference I believe, not sure. but it's the same engine except with VVT-I, so I see no problem with being able to swap it.
