    ¿¿Ebay....guaranteed win??

I've heard that there is a way to win guaranteed everytime but im scared to try it....

For example, if you are bidding on something and someone else is the leading bidder at $70 but has set their maximum bid at $100.....you can win by bidding like a ridiculous amount so that anyone else bidding could not dare to challenge it.....a ridiculous amount being like $1,000 for something that you know for a fact is worth $25 brand new....and since you will only pay a little more than the previous bidder was willing to pay ($100), you will not end up paying $1,000 but instead the $100.....unless of course, someone bids $1,001 or something....

Does anyone know if this is true??

What im afraid of is that you will end up having to pay more if someone else bids more....like if someone doesnt know if you bidded $1,000 and they continued to bid at their own increments like $120, then $140, then $200.....im afraid that it will raise the current bid from $100...to $200....or increase with the contending bid.....

its called a proxy bid, basically you put down whatever amount you are willing to pay upto, when the bidder tries to outbid you, it will automatically bump up the bid until he surpasses you, if he couldn't beat it. Whatever the raised amount ended up to will be the amount you will end up paying for winning the bid. Ex. if you put a proxy bid of 1000 and the other guy tried to outbid and got the bidding as high as 999.99 and lost the bidding. For winning the auction, you have to pay 999.99 because that is the bid amount ended upto.

it is designed to benifit the auctioneer. obviously this is a good way to get people to fight with each other and get the most money for an auction.
