Why are the XRS seats called "Racing seats"?

I don't get it. I looked at pictures, I sat on them at the dealership...doesn't feel very racing to me, if not almost the same feel as any other corolla. So why is Toyota calling them "Racing seats"?

They're not racing seats...they're more like a "sport" seats if anything. With a true racing seat, you get TONS of lateral support, plus room to run a 4 or 5 point harness.

I wish I knew before I got them. It's actually not that bad though. Depends on the type of seat.

Mine isn't bad at all. It actually is comfy, but it is not like the stock ones though. The stock ones are like a couch compared to racing seats. It felt harder then normal, but I got used to it and I love it. Plus I feel more confident taking fast corners cause my body doesn't lean to the side nor my ass sliding.

The bottom part was no problem for me at all. I just had to get used to the back supports cause it really supports your back. Unlike the stock ones that has no lumbar support.

A good quality racing seat is HELLA nice to sit in. They give such good lateral support, and you will feel very safe and secure. My friend had some $600 Sparco seat in his STi, and it was HELLA comfortable. Wasn't the easiest to get into though. But it was still a lot more comfortable than my stock 03 rolla's.

I think it all comes down to the quality of the seat. If I had the money, and my car handled enough to need it, i'd have a racing seat and use a 4 point harness for daily driving.

Well my friend had to run his 4 point harness because the seat didn't give him the room for the stock belt. There's probably a lot of seats that still let you use the stock belt though. But why would you want to? Your 10x more secure with a 4 point. I'm telling you, it's an amazing feeling sitting in one.

agreed....right now my seats feel pretty good except it feels weird with the stock seatbelts. I'm pretty sure it will be alot better with the 4 point.

The only thing with using a 4 point for daily driving, it can be a pain in the ass to get all the belts in the quick release. That takes like 10-15 seconds, and if you're like me, you just wanna drive as soon as the engine starts up.

how did your friend hook up the shoulder supports of his seat belts. Did he connect it by using the bolts from the rear seat belt or bolted it to the floor.

He had a bar that went across the B-pillar, then attached the shoulder harnesses to that. For the lap belts, i think he might have bolted it straight to the floor, either that or to the the bracket for the seat.

I know the way to go for the shoulder harnesses is with the bar across the B-pillar. It has to do with the harness compressing your spinal cord or some shit. You'd probably have to get one custom made for your car, but they do make the bars for some cars.

ya, I was thinking of using one of those lateral bars from an integra. I'll just have to see what my shop has to work with.

no, that's if there's a full cage. if there's a bar going across the b-pillar it doesn't get in the way of anything.

It will limit you from seat position. Like instead of having the seat further back if you have long legs, you might have to be scrunched forward a bit. Or if you get a custom one, and get the seat position right, the passengers in the back might not have a lot of room.

Also, you better make sure the passengers in the back have their seatbelts on at all times. The bar will crack a guy's head open if you get into a wreck and passenger hits his head hard enough on the bar.

4 point harnesses are dangerous to drive on the street with cus you cant turn to look behind you or in your blind spot

You can turn enough to check your blind spot. The only problem is backing up, you can't look directly behind you. Also, you can loosen the belts up quite a bit to give you more freedom to move. That it would still be better than the OEM seatbelts.

You bring a pretty good point there with having to perfectly position it so I can scoot back the seat all the way back. It will be a custom job so I'll just have to do some trial and error on the positioning. Also for the rear passengers I normally don't have any and if I do they sell those foam coverings over the bars.
