Unscrew it and use a patch kit to fix it.

Take it to Less Schwabb and they will patch it for free. Atleast they used to, probably still do.

Where in NY? If it is NYC there are tons of places that will patch it, and not plug it.

No!!!! ^^^^ No plugs, it messes up the integrity of the tire.

For a proper patch you have to unmount the tire.

Depends on how deep that screw is in the tire. Definitely don't mess with it until you get a chance to take it somewhere to be patched. Plugs are the cheap way out - like everyone mentioned, get it patched instead. looks like there is a lot of meat on the tread - once the tire is patched (have to unmount the tire, like laz mentioned) - should be good as new.

I'm pretty sure they'll patch it or plug-patch it, but not plug it alone. I went to a tire place recently and they said that most places will not plug a tire anymore. You can get the ktis from walmart though for really cheap.

I plugged my tire, and it was fine to drive and race on. However, for peace of mind sake, I took it to a tire place and had it patch-plugged (patch with a small plug attached) for the 1000 mile round trip home for Thanksgiving.

okay what exactly is a patch and a plug?

the screw is actually in between the threads.. i know its hard to see from that picture.

i went to a tire place and he took the screw out and i heard air hissing out. he had this narrow brown soft thing he used to jam into the screw hole after he put some self-vulcanizing chemical thing.

    he didn't unmount the tire..

edit: actually he just plugged it.. he used these tools

so how much does a patch job cost? i need to bring it somewhere else..

patch job is usually free from the place you bought your tires. other places no more than $10

A plug is where you do not unmount the tire. You use a tool to widen the hole a little and shove the plug into it, cutting away the excess.

A patch is where you take the tire off, clean the inside and used adhesive (the can looked almost like a rubber cement) and swab it over the hole (about 2-2.5 inches in diameter) and place the patch over letting it bond and dry.

Mine was a combinatio of the two, called a patch-plug.

i brought it to Kost Auto Tire Care and the guy looked at the plug job i had done just a couple of hours prior.

he said, thats a crap plug. smart move bringing it to us.

i feel better driving with the car now.. i was really nervous with that awfu looking plug.. i should have taken a picture of it.
