Well its more than what I can afford but I mean its not as expensive as Ferraris and other exotics. Still exotic though. $50k comapred to like $100k+ for other exotics is a big difference.

Shit, if he doesn't want it, I'll take it. A busted ass Elise is better than no Elise at all. We actually need more of these events to happen so we can scavenge that engine.

So one must be rich to afford a 50k car? You keep saying that you want one, and you plan on getting one in the future......

Dont you have a Lexus SUV?

I dont see how that can be deemed totaled.

Elise aren't that expensive...if a base price is $50k, that's only $16k more than my truck.

Even with a witness, a picture like that says a 1,000 words. Goodyear's @ss is his.

he's gotta be loaded if he has a 911 and an Elise that's paid off free and clear.

As for the totaling thing... those frames are so fragile (because they are built to be lightweight) that one good accident would total it. that drop was probably enough to knock the whole frame out of alignment. (my guess)

Yea your right Elise are like the cheap Lotus of it's time. This picture is rather funny I've seen the same color Elise at tail of Dragon (deal's gap) and the owner I talked with mentioned these car's handle very very well on the curves.... This car is Not totalled the damages do not exceed the Total value of the car and very likely minimal damages at all...

damages exceeding the value of the car would have nothing to do with it if the entire frame was bent. that's an INSTANT total, regardless of cost since the core of the car is no longer usable.

too bad it IS totalled. the frame is bent and has been stressed to the max. I'd like to see someone buy a 50000 dollar car and ride around on a faulty frame.

elise the cheap lotus of its time? lol

also, buying a sports car is one thing that makes it expensive.. but the maintenance is another. i would not say this car is cheap!

Right, but Barnacules made it seem like youd have to be rich to own a Lotus Elise.

Oh, and base price is 42k

Where did I say that you had to be rich to own one? Can you please quote me on your next reply so I can see where i said "You have to be rich to own one"? I don't recall ever saying that. I do recall saying that anyone that says an Elise doesn't cost that much must be rich because there is a big difference between being able to own one and calling it inexpensive, I'm sure you can agree with that.

Again... Don't have to be rich to own one... Just have to be rich to have it paid off or be able to call them an "Inexpensive Car" :D

Let me give you an example :D
Guy that makes $30k a year says a $50k car is expensive
Guy that makes $150k a year says a $50k car is affordable
Guy that makes $200k a year says a $50k car is cheap as dirt
Guy that makes $200m a year says a lamborguini diablo is dirt cheap

Now you have a scale to work off of :D

For many insurance cos, a "total loss" is when the repair costs equal anywhere between 1/2 and 3/4 of the car's value. Not saying $16k is 1/2 the car's value, but you get my point.

    You make no sense.

    Mayur says this:

    Then you say this:

Now, am I the only one thinking that you are saying that you have to be rich to own an Elise, and to think that its inexpensive in the process? Why must one be rich to think that a 42k car doesnt cost much?

Does one have to be rich to say that a 200k house is not that expensive?

I can say a 42k car is inexpensive. I guess Im rich? I dont consider 40-50k cars expensive.

Do you consider your Lexus SUV expensive??
This argument is based on ones perception of the world. There is no right or wrong here.

Yes, there is a difference. Mayur was just saying that it doesnt cost that much.

I disagree. I dont consider my self "rich", yet my cars are paid off. Real estate sales helped out with that.

Alrite no need to fuss over something as little as the price tag. The base is actually $42k so even with all options it cant be more than $50k. If he has a 911 then an elise is nothing to him. I would even think that it is his daily driver.
