Check this stuff out - Jiffy Lube gets BUSTED on camera

There is a link on this site - to a video from CH.4 News in Cali.

    http://www.seriouszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49599

The undercover news team gets the shaft at 5 out of 9 Jiffy-Lubes for being charged services that were never done. I remember a sting that was done in May-June that turned up the same deal - they (Jiffy-Lube) said they would investigate, take action, bla-bla-bla. Glad to see that many here do their own work.

Old stuff. I remember seeing this news cast. Way back in the days, before I could even drive, Jiffy Lube replaced out transmission fluid on a Crown Vic. Within a few blocks of leaving the store, the car stopped moving forward because our transmission had busted. I can't remember the exact problem, but I think they forgot to put fluid back in or something retarded like that.

Yeah, I remember they always had problems - leaving tools under the hood, forgetting to reinstall drain plugs, etc. - but to have 5 out of 9 shops investigated stiff people for services not performed is terrible. I could see maybe one or two bad apples - but this is a bit extreme.

Did you watch the other reports they did? They trained their employees how to spot undercover news reporters instead of fixing the problem.

I've always been concerned about that kind of stuff. I always check to make sure they actually changed my filter and put in the right kind of oil, b/c since they use underground wells to get beneath the car, they could easily lie to someone who may not have been watching them.

Also, since I usually bring in my own Mobil 1, I check to make sure they're actually pouring that in instead of stashing it somewhere and putting crappy oil in instead.

If you're buying the Mobil 1...why not just go buy the filter and do it yourself to begin with?

No driving to a shop...not some other guy screwing around with your ride.

I ALWAYS change my own oil. If I am so hard-pressed for time that I absolutely cannot change my own oil...I drop it at the dealership, go do what needs to be done, and come back half an hour later.

since ive had my civic (aug 2005), i havent changed the oil myself...ive taken it to the honda dealership everytime cuz after doin it so often w/the corolla, i just got tired oof doin it...but everytime i take it, i mark the oil filter and use tamper evident tape (which i get from the hospital for when they do lab testing) and tape the drain plug, oil cap, and dip stick....ive forgotten to do it a few times but the times i havent forgotten, i find out that they have done the work and i walk out a satisfied customer...

thats a little much I think, dealerships are watched like hawks, comebacks\get put on your record of work, its not a good thing, even with just oil, that and I don't check the dip stick everytime, I do most of the time but I know a 4.0 jeep takes 6 quarts, thats what I put in, a liberty takes 5 thats what I put in, you don't need to check it every time if you have done it a thousand times, if you put the right amount of oil in the car turn it on and it doesn't puke all over the floor then your good to go...

I worked at one for a few months, I saw my share of half assed jobs.. I'm with vortex, if you are mechanically inclined, do it your own damn self especially if it's a simple oil change. For more specialized work you're better off with a privately owned shop, get some recommendations. Basically nobody touch my car except me, last time I handed over the keys to someone else was for a alignment.

I have only done a flush and change of air filter in my car. I have a friend *cough uncle* in the local Toyota Dealer that I feel safe to give the keys to.
