    New Suspension Setup Question?

I was going to be getting a new suspension setup for my 02 Corolla, what would be the way to go. Alot of people say that have premature blowouts with tokico. Would KYB GR2 struts with H&R Springs be a good setup? Any Input would be most appreciated. Thanks

i have that setup (H&R+KYB), and it's a good ride. it's pretty harsh but what can i say, system is almost always stable with the super short settling time.

That's inaccurate. I have Tokico HPs on my 01 and they still ride great after 50,000 miles.

KYB GR2s are basically stock struts. Your 02 had them stock from Toyota. I put GR2s in my Nissan and the performance is very average at best.

    Go with Tokico or Koni.

get ksport coilovers. i have H&R + GR2. good ride but it really needs sways because the spring rate is too low for competitive driving. i say get either ksports or tokicos and s-tech's

Hell, if you want spring rate, go with Skunk2. Their lowering springs and coilover sleeves have insanely high spring rates. I've ridden in a civic hatchback with Skunk2 full thread coilovers, and i thought my balls were going to fall out of my sac.

Bilstein are by far the best struts I've seen for our cars. I highly recommend them. The ride quality and performance is great. I've been through several different suspension setups and Bilstein is on the top of my list.

Check eBay for the struts. I see them on there all the time. As for springs, my friend has Road Magnets on his 97 and that thing rides and handles real nice.

Do the Road Magnets lower your car? I just want a nice handling ride with about 1.5-1.8" lowered. I want to be about to go around a turn at a high speed and not lean to one side.

If you are looking to reduce the amount of leaning in turns - you need to look at upgraded sway bars. Springs and struts are only part of the solution - but with OEM sways with a killer setup - it will still roll a bit (unless you are running some monster spring rate). Also couple that with a good tire.wheel combination and strut tow braces/chassis stiffeners. The Corolla chassis is not the best place to start for a corner carving machine - but for a modest investment - the chassis responds exceptionally well to upgraded suspension parts.

what Does spring rate mean? What would be a good Upgraded Sway bar to get? I already have some Motegi FF7 17's with Toyo Proxies. All I want is a Shock/Spring setup that works together and thats not going to blow out on me or give me problems.

most aftermarket springs only offer a 15-60% spring rate increase, I wouldn't recommend spring/strut setup if you are looking for maximum cornering ability.

I don't want MAXIMUM cornering ability, just not to have it lean so much, So from what I have got from everyones response, sounds like i should either go with Bilsteins/Road Magnets. Or a full Tokico setup, and GR-2s and H&R springs are to much like stock. I might be wrong so correct me if im wrong.

I personally don't like Tokicos, but thats only because I had them blow out on me prematurely.

I got Tein S.tech springs (98-02) w/Tokico HP struts and TRD 2 point front strut brace on my 1994 corolla. I'm going to get Tein Type Flex w/ pillow ball mounts next year for my car or other full coilover suspension brands. Goku, it's your choice whether you want it for daily driving or competition on spring setup or coilovers.

I've always heard the struts Bilstein makes for our cars were more like a factory replacement and gave a ride a little softer than KYBs. To each his own, but I would think they'd be a little soft for performance driving.
