Solution to ECU fighting your piggyback and making your AFRs lean?

For anyone who's having issues with partial throttle tuning because thier ECU wants to fight your piggyback system in an attempt to maintain 14.7:1 AFRs, there is a solution. Split Second's ESC1 EGO Signal Conditioner tricks your ECU into open loop mode when it sees 1psi of boost. I had it installed on my car and immediately started running 13.5:1 AFRs right off the bat. With a little road tuning, I have it running consistant 11.5:1 AFRs at partial and full throttle. As an extra bonus, no annoying check engine lights telling me my fuel trims are too rich. It's a bit pricey, being $189, but the ability to easily road tune your car with it (you'll need a wideband of course) and not have to rely on paying for a Dyno session is a big savings in itself.

i might jump on the bandwagon with this ... mine has been running fine, however, it would be nice to start over on the tuning with a better platform to start with. lol

That is great news! Was is hard to install? I have the same problems that you have. I am running a AIC from split second to control a 5th injector, but when in partial throttle the car seems to be ether getting too much fuel or too little. Man I need to get my hands on a wideband!

Installing was a piece of cake. I tee'd off my boost controllers vacuum line (you'll need a 1/8" fitting) to the ESC1. Then I tapped my ECU's switched power source, grounded the negative wire to the chassis, and cut the O2 wire in half and soldered one wire to the ECU and one wire to the O2 sensor. I have mine tucked away behind the dash where the clock is to the right.

Doesn't the eManage have a tie in to the O2 sensor also? If this is the case do you want it to connect in before or after the ESC1?

The eManage doesn't tie into the O2 sensor. The only time it would do that is if you were using a wideband and wanted to datalog it. for the most part, if you hook up signal modifying electronics to trick the ECU, you'll want your fuel management system wired in on the sensor/engine side so that it sees the real sensor signal.

the o2 tie in you're thinking about is auxillary signal input for wiring in something like a wideband for datalogging purposes

Wow, you can really tell instantly when you have a vacuum leak on the particular hose connecting to the ESC1. Instant 14.7:1 AFRs at boost. That freaked me out. Time to check the other lines I haven't gone over yet.

Ooops, so the ESC1 isn't doing its job? Are you sure its a vaccume leak and that the ESC1 didn't just crap out on ya? I would connect a pressure source to the ESC1 to have it always show over 1psi so you can see if the AFR's drop back down just to make sure it didn't go toast on ya.

It's a vacuum leak because it's on the same line as my boost gauge/controller, and it's reading low as well. The only reason I know I'm boosting more than it reads if from the sound of the turbo and the BOV going off. That's a great idea about applying a pressure source to the ESC1. Hmmm, maybe I'll just blow into one end of the vacuum hose everytime I start boosting. Lol.

HAHAHAHA  You can run a stray out of your dashboard and when you jump on the gas you can just blow in that sucker, tell everyone that your helping the turbo keep spooled :D

Lol. Well I just gave the ESC1 and my boost controller their own dedicated lines off the vacuum manifold, so all is good.
