    How not to turbo your car

    Check out this guy from 6gc.net - I give him some props for trying, but the dude should try putting some more though into a project to get something worthwhile out of it. Links were provided from a good poster from another Corolla forum I frequent.

    Yeah true, my turbo install shares a few similarities with that one because we were in a 1 car garage with limited access to tools and resources and had to make some crazy decisions :) But gotta give the guy props for doing it in the first place.

    Sure he will learn - just hope that others that take the plunge actually take the time to learn more about the basics (ignition timing, fuel maps, running with a fan on the radiator, etc.) and not dive right in. That is definitely an expensive lesson to learn.

    Yeah, my lesson cost me ~$2400 :D But if we want to get down to education it probably would have cost more then $2400 for school to learn as much as I did just figuring shit out as I went :p

    He is at 4psi only so far.
    I want to know how much hp/tq does he gain with only 4psi in HIS setup. 20hp?

    multiple rubber connectors with a turbo setup?? ive never turboed a car b4 nor do I kno the full extent of how to turbo a car....but am I correct when I say, you shouldnt be using rubber tube connectors???

    I believe that is correct. Could be his form of boost control - rubber expands a bit, take a bit of the edge off the boost/compressor surge. Can't see this going to 10-12 PSI (the guy mentions to this in later posts).

    Some rubber tube connectors are actually silicon with a mesh grid formed inside of them to keep them from expanding. That is what I use.

    True - but this guy is using plain rubber plumbing couplers from Lowes. Not the same stuff you are using - that can take pressure as well as wide temperature variations. Silicone stays flexible, but rubber will start to harden and turn brittle when exposed to excessive heat.
