    bike people in here...advice needed.

went to a local bike shop with a friend yesterday to get a birthday gift for a mutual friend of ours when i came across the Honda Rebel. i know it's a good starter cruiser, as it's small, lightweight, and really doesn't have too much power. i've also seen pictures of the Suzuki GZ250, which falls into the same class as the Rebel, and i really like that as well.

keep in mind, i've never been on a motorcycle before(hell, i don't know much about bikes anyway...), and i have no intention of going "fast" on it...so yes, i want a pussy bike. i also can't stand the typical "sport bike" look - it'll either be a cruiser or nothing for me.

    for reference...

    Honda Rebel: http://powersports.honda.com/motorc...=Rebel&ModelYear=2005&ModelId=CMX250C5&bhcp=1

    Suzuki GZ250: http://www.suzukicycles.com/products/GZ250K5/Default.aspx

    any other suggestions?

i won't be buying for another year, as i haven't yet taken the MSF course and i've got a loan to pay off on the Subaru...so i've got time to shop around.

not bad of a choice of bike, if I never go with a sports bike I'd defenetly could think of a small cruiser.

i started on a ninja 250. little bit faster than the others and hadles a little bit better because it is more of the sport style rather than a cruiser. you can get a 200 ninja 250 for like 1500 or less. there pretty cheap. just my $.02

the ninja 250 really isn't a sportbike because of the seating position. most people describe it as a 'standard'.

I plan on buying a ninja 250 in the next year so, I've made my choice :D
here's a quick 250cc article you might find interesting, mostly older models that you'd only find used (exc ex250)

I'm with monkey and CB. Ninja 250, even though it's kinda ugly.. it'll definately more fun to ride than the Rebel or GZ.

Ninja 250 is a nice beginner bike. And it will retain its value so you can recoup your money back when you outgrow it in a year

monkey, jspex, yamatundra - NO "sport" bikes. cruiser or nothing for me...i can't stand the style of the sport/touring bikes, and i've always wanted a cruiser.

if i get used, i won't be worried about recouping much of the cost...and i really don't like the sportbike style, so a ninja is out of the question.

the situation is completely hypothetical at this point. i might get a scooter at the recommendation of a friend of mine, just to get used to the whole bike feel without having to get used to shifting. if i go that route, the first bike i get will be new.

do not get a scooter. I have one, it's lame as hell. and I really despise having an automatic transmission, which 99% of scooters have. I suggest the GZ250 or virago they mentioned in the article.
