    Plan to do a tune up...what should I get?

    Ok here is what I have in mind for when my car hits 29500 miles (would do it at 30k but oil needs to be replaced at 29.5.

    * Mobile1 Full Synthetic Oil

    * OEM Toyota Oil Filter

    * Spark Plugs (which ones are good? im thinkin bosch platinums?)

    * A bottle of that injector cleaner thingy that you dump into gas tank every 3k miles (does that stuff really work? ive been putting in the cheaper one every 9000 miles but i may do it every 3k with the best one)

    Am I missing anything or what???

    "Bosch" is taboo on some car forums. I just stick with oem replacements. From what I've heard NGK is supposed to be pretty good too.

    decent info on spark plugs: http://sparkplugs.com/sparkplug411.asp

    What about Denso? I see a bunch of stuff here and there on toyotas that say Denso on them. I also remember playing Gran Turismo 2 on my old PS1 and there was a Denso Supra :D

    Interesting, I know that about half the users on bimmerforums are against bosch plugs. Really depends on the car. There's bosch plug horror stories and bosch plug love stories. Some overlook other variables, such as mileage, driving habits, and keeping up on maintenance.

    I googled 'bosch plugs suck' and got a few results (I know that's not saying much). There's always going to be people saying "such and such product sucks." I've heard that about Bosch often enough for me to remember it.

    Post #11 here was pretty adamant, although unconvincing: http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/engine-and-drivetrain/60926-loose-sparkplugs/

    Just plain Bosch plugs are not too bad (used the plain platinum plugs in my older cars because they stay cleaner than regular copper plugs over the long run). The only problems I've read on different forums were from the multiple ground electrode variants (Bosch +2, Bosch +4 plugs).

    Denso or NGK would be good plug brands for the 1ZZ-FE - OEM ones are the Densos. If the car is a 2000+ Corolla - it would have Iridium plugs OEM that supposed to last 120K miles. Early 8th gens used dual tipped copper plugs.

    Redline makes a killer fuel injector cleaner. This stuff is much stronger than stuff you can buy off the shelf in most places. The cost is bad either - runs about $10-$12 a bottle. One bottle is good for something like 100 gallons of gas.

    Things I would check on the car at 30K miles (mostly checks, since the car was designed for low maintenace:(

    - oil and oil filter
    - air filter (since you have a SRI - don't bother)
    - plugs (if anything to pull them out and read the plugs - it appears from your sig pic that you have VVT-i - means you have the long life iridium plugs, also resist the temptation to wirebrush the plugs (easy way to cause problems later), adding some anti-seize to the plug threads will make your life much easier later when you have to remove them (just don't do overboard with it, a little goes a long way).
    - check plug wires on 1998-1999 Corollas, 2000+ check coil on plugs for damage
    - clean MAF sensor (highly recommended if you have an aftermarket intake - just becareful not to damage it)
    - check vacuum hoses, PCV valve (pretty cheap - I'd replace them every 30K-60K miles)
    - check condition of serpentine belt (heavy cracking, missing ribs, etc. - replace it)
    - check belt tensioner and pulleys while your at it (some have reported that the pulleys on some 1ZZ-FE do not run true - I haven't seen it in my car, but I've heard it affect some Prisms for some reason).
    - check condition of brake fluid (if the fluid is more than two years old - be a good tiem to think about flushing out the fluid with some fresh stuff).
    - IF manual tranny - check master clutch cylinder (see above reason)
    - IF auto tranny - check automatic trans fluid condition, if it looks burnt or off-color (not red) then replace.
    - check steering components, brakes, suspension (anything you pick up earlier will save you some serious coin later).
    - rotate tires (since the tires will have to some off anyway - you can do the above inspection very quickly)
    - adding some fuel injector cleaner can't hurt.

    ^Thanks a ton man. Rotating the tires wont have much effects seeing as they are bald :lol: Im gonna get a new set before winter season hits though.

    For the fuel injector thing, I went over to autozone today and saw three of them that said complete engine cleaner thingy majigger. One was Pennzoil, Prestone, and Gumout. Gumout was the cheap stuff that didnt seem to good. Pennzoil was the most expensive and the Prestone was in the fancy bottle. I looked at the Preston and Pennzoil bottles and they both seem to say the same things. The Prestone one said with octane booster and it boosts your octane by one point. Dont really care for that but its cheaper than the Pennzoil one. Which one would you recommend?

    Do not use anything but iridims on 1ZZ VVT-i. Check the condition before replacing because as fishexpo101 said, they are made to last over 100K and they cost like $12 a plug. NEVER run platniums, they are a horrible conductor and are made for longivity not performance.

    I recommend Redline fuel injector cleaner.
