What pads to go with Brembo rotor?

    Hello~

it's almost time for me to replace my rotor, and i'm planning to get brembo cross and drilled rotor.
i'm wondering that which brand of brake pads i should use to go with new rotor?? or should i just use the stock pads??

    Thanks in advance!!

    Ming :)

Go with OEM pads...youll be happy ya did.

If ya insist on not getting OEM, Id suggest Hawk or EBC

Why is everyone saying OEM? Do Hawk or EBC Greenstuff eat the aftermarket rotors or something? Please explain.

Haha....Yeah, I was going to ask that...cuz I was pretty sure you ran OEM pads.

Yeah, people complain about aftermarket pads being loud.

Currently Im running ATE rotors and Axxis Deluxe pads on my passat, and under hard breaking, they can be loud, at least to me. But I stop very quickly!

I have cheap rotors and cheap pads..they work fine..

I have a pair of Brembo rotors (blanks) and a set of Bendix pads waiting to be installed..but I'll probably keep putting it off until I actually need to replace them. :p

Are those cross/drilled rotors even good to have? I once posted and asked if I should buy these and a lot of people suggested not to even think about buying these.

If they are labelled as Brembo's and are slotted and cross-drilled, they are not 100% original Brembo's, do yourself a favor and contact Brembo directly (http://www.brembo.com) and ask them if they actually slot and cross-drill the rotors. After that, you'll probably be looking for gold/bronzish colored Brembo blanks.

Here, to save some time, here are the brakes for the 1994 Toyota Corolla (my car) on the Brembo website (notice the lack of slots and cross-drilling)

    http://www.brembo.com/CatalogoBremb....aspx?idBU=1&idLingua=1&PartNumber=09.5736.10

Most places selling slotted or cross-drilled rotors do it in house to make their brakes more *attractive* or *performance oriented* since most people believe that slotted or cross-drilled brakes will improve their braking (just not the case on a car like the Corolla, unless modified and needs alot of hard or high speed braking). Also, alot of these places cross-drill the brakes by actually just drilling the holes striaght in (not the proper method for having cross-drilled brakes), this leaves imperfections no the edge around the holes, which created an area that causes more heat to build up (more heat = less efficient braking, as we all know, and can lead to premature disc warpage) and can also cause an area of stress that, if great enough, can cause your rotors to actually crack. Well, that is some information for you guys, and before buying those so called Brembo slotted and cross-drilled rotors, do yourself a favor and research them a bit more.

Cross drilled rotors should be chamfered drilled....instead of a precise edge, its indented inwards, like a cone.

Those Slotted/Cross-drilled rotors are probably just Brembo blanks (plain discs) that have been cut inhouse to look like more expensive rotors. Slotted/Cross-drilled rotors for our cars in stock sizes are all show - look at cars that come with slotted/drilled rotors from OEM. Those are "huge" rotors - that big of a rotor can lose some mass and still be effective. Chopping out holes and slotting rotors that are Corolla OEM size is a recipe for poor braking performance or lower life - rotor does not have enough mass (thermal heat sink) to handle normal heat generated by the brakes.

migww: For approximately the same price, you can get real, not tampered with Brembo blanks from places like www.coximport.com

In your case, at those price ranges, I would just make sure I get the real thing and not take a chance on Ebay
