Ignorant comment...especially cuz youve raced both series and you can compare the two from your personal racing experience?

So why didnt everyone freak out when Ganassi got into NASCAR? Or Robby Gordon?

And lets not forget where Tony Stewart came from....

Initially I thought it was a major step down, which it is, but I think Montoya will like NASCAR better. It suits his persona.

I'm just sick of hearing about Danica Patrick. If both Montoya and Danica move to NASCAR, we'll never hear about Montoya.

How is it a huge step down? Technology wise? Driver skill?

And Danica Patrick is a great person....Ive hung out with her personally many times when we were both racing karts in the mid to late 90s. Shes always been the underdog, even in kart racing, yet she whooped everyones asses in karts.

I think that the Danica thing is just a rumor, since she was at the racetrack the same weekend the Montoya story broke. I think its just a coinicidence.

Hence why I said "There's rumours..." before posting what I did...

Yes..thanks for clarifying! News agencies are running with it though, and some think these rumors are facts.

Yes, it's a huge step down in technology. There's a ton of money dumped into F1. And the politics of the sport take on a world of its own. National pride is a big thing, too.

In terms of racing? Eh, I don't want to get into the "NASCAR'S so stupid, it's just rednecks going around in a circle" argument, because I kinda like NASCAR. It's purely subjective. I couldn't tell you that it takes more skill to pass someone on a circuit than it does to pass someone on an oval because I don't know. I'm basing this off of what the name conveys, NASCAR isn't on a global level like F1. When I think F1 I think Monaco, when I think NASCAR I think Alabama.

Don't forget it's a step down from fan base also. Imagine how many view F1 worldwide compared to NASCAR. I like NASCAR, too...but compared to F1, come on...

Now I don't wanna make this a debate about which form of racing is better. I wanna look at it from Montoya's view point. Why did he quit F1? Did he see that his seat was threatened at McLaren? Would no other team take him if he left McLaren? Was it about money? Pride? Any takes?

True, its a step down in technology, (but not a HUGE step) but that is what Montoya wants. He wants to be in a series that is all DRIVER. Basically what the NASCAR series is about. Stock cars to the fullest.

Hehe..the politics of NASCAR rivals that of F1 if you keep up with it. But in F1, the politics hinders the sport.

Also, in terms of not being global...NASCAR has the largest fan base in the US of any televised event. And NASCAR isnt "South" anymore. Superspeedways are popping up like crazy in regions that are far from the South. California, Chicago, Las Vegas, etc, with a large presence of the tracks being in the Northeast. And also the driver demographics have shifted as well (in regards to drivers home towns). The top drivers now are from California actually.
Not trying to change your opinion, but the stereotypical response to NASCAR shouldnt be the same as it was in the 70s and 80s.

All in all, NASCAR is MUCH more competitive than F1...theres no way to argue that fact.

Im a huge fan of both NASCAR and F1, and its very rare for me to miss either race on a weekend. Like Montoya himself admits, its going to be tough for him in NASCAR.

Also, just to let ya know....Gordon got in Montoyas car at Indy two years ago and ran just as good as time at Montoya....lots of drivers have tried NASCAR out....John Andretti, Fittipaldi, Paul Traci, Max Papis, Scott Pruett, Jimmy Vasser, etc. So why is this any different?

Oh, and lets not forget that Montoya orginally won a CART series in 99, and the Indy 500 in 2000, (BEFORE his F1 stint) both racing for the Ganassi Team. Fact is hes just going back to Ganassi's NASCAR team. He wants something more enjoyable than F1.......and hes quoted as saying that. He said that three years down the road from now, he knows he'd look back and see that he didnt enjoy his time in F1.

A quitter? No, just not happy with the F1 atmosphere. And lets face it.....he never did all that great in F1 anyways.

    From wikipedia
    Ok...so he's a whiner then....:)

    BTW...that was all joking.
Not a fan of Montoya, but I'd love to see him stick it out in F1. He is a competitive driver! Just not an interesting character, IMO.

I think too many of the F1 drivers have Egos that are larger than their race cars. NASCAR isnt void of that either though.

Im looking forward to seeing Montoya in actual wheel to wheel racing again.....which there is very little of in F1 racing anymore.

Haha....hey now, F1 has its fair share of rough racing as well. Which is even more ludicrous considering what they are wrecking in the process. (Thats when the cars are actually in the same turn, which is......well......the 1st lap?? lol...a cheap shot at F1 :)

Atleast the NASCAR guys are crazy enough to go after other drivers when something messes up. In F1, the stewarts gets all the punishment....(cheap shot at Kimi for shoving a stewart when his car blew up last year...:))
