Hmmmmm...higher octane made them lose power. I remember the debate a long time ago where people were saying higher octane fuel would give you better power...guess not.

hehe that is correct - higher octane does jack shit for ya if you're not boosting. one reason why: putting in 91 octane in a car tuned for say.. 85 you're not actually making a nice a/f ratio and burning off the fuel - you're running a little richer and while some people still argue that the richer you're running the more power you're making, it is incorrect. you can get more power from a lower a/f (mind you ya dont wanna run too lean). this is also why people who have run turbocharged applications raved about how much power they were making right before they melted down their block from running too lean. :) for a while there they were making tons of torque, but... yeah... lol

air fuel ratio and octane actually have nothing to do with one another when comparing different octane ratings

generally lower octane rating gasses will ignite easier, which is better for a more controllable flame front in the combustion chamber..... the higher you go, the harder it is to ignite....

detonation is where the gas pre-ignites to ignition spark..... the reason it's recommended to run higher octane in boosted motors or higher compression motors is because with lower octane there is more chance for the gas to ignite itself in hotter combustion situations..... however, you want to find the lowest octane gas that does not detonate

correct but since the low octane ignites easier you have a better chance of burning off more of the fuel provided. since higher octane is harder to ignite, you will have more unburned fuel which will register on an a/f meter (i tested this theory in watching what the engine did with a wide-band on different octane gases ranging from 75 octane to 108 octane (yes there are pumps here in co that provide it)

I dk if I'm right but all that higher octane fuel does is keep ur fuel system clean........correct me if I'm wrong.

It prevents/reduces detonation on high compression and boosted engines..on a normal 1zz, it's not worth it.

its more resistant to detination and takes longer to burn

The only mod that produces mad hp is Type-R sticker.

Just goes to prove that all of that money put into the bolt ons do jack shit for hp ratings.

and remember Manufacturer Claims gains are usually shown as Flywheel increase, or a percentage rating. same part on different cars equals a different gain, I read an artical where a new Accord V6 gained 20hp from Unorthodox lightwight pulleys (including Crank pulley)

What do you mean suspension mods?

Suspension mods deal with physics, and are well worth it if you know what youre doing. TUNE your suspension, dont just throw on every available part just because its available.

so if i take physics next year, that will help me understand suspension lol? i never did get how any of that works, so i'm not even planning for new suspension.

the main "physics" would be stuff dealing with forces, springrates, and weight transfer...

however, dealing with suspension.... the best mod for good handling is learning to drive your car
