Engine Hood sound deading question

    Hood sound deading question

    I am thinking of lightening the car a little bit and plan on removing the sound deadening material under the hood but i noticed pieces of foil above the starter/alternator and air filter box. Does anybody know what they are there for and if it is still safe to remove the sound deadening material.

    its not for sound deadening. that stuff is heat insulation. keeps from you burnin ur hand on the hood and saves the paint. that stuff all together weighs about 2 lbs max. the rest of the sound deadening tar around the trunk and under the carpet is best removed with dry ice.

    I took mine off.. no problems... also acts as a fire supressor too... you engine lights on fire it melts the clips and it falls on top smothering out the fire..

    Leave it up there...the 1-ish pound that that you would save...isn't going to help you too much.
