    04-05 M3 or 02-03 M5?

If you guys had a choice, which car would you get? A low mileage 2004-2005 E46 M3 (coupe), or a high mileage (40-50k) 2002-2003 E39 M5?
They all run about the same price range (mid-high forties).
My friend has an 03 E46 M3 and said its a nice car, but its a high-revving motor so I may not have power when I want it, whereas an M5... I'll have it in the lower RPM's. But, we're also talking about more miles on a beast that's guaranteed to have been driven crazily. I'll definately have to get a CPO with the 100k warranty.

ger the E46 m3 the have power throughtthe power band and are quicker than M5 cause they are lighter and have on 70 horeses less that the M5. Plus they ahve tons of aftermarket support M5 power is easily attainible.

It's very hard to pick one. Both of them are really nice.
But I think I would pick M3 since I don't like big car too much.

I can sorta see the M3 over the M5 since it would be newer with less mileage for the price, and an extremely quick car :) Did you test drive them both yet? I think you should do that first, maybe theres one that will just stick out in your mind over any other... the owner here has a 2001 M5 and a 98 M3... heh... he drives the M5 more (but the M3 is also older, less power, etc...)

I agree. There's something really cool about having a 4 door that can hang with a 911. It really depends on your needs. Single? Get the M3. Have a gf and/or a lot of friends? Get the M5.

I would take the m5 cause you can carry more people in it. It's also fun to pack your car full of people and scare them all half to death.

    M3 FTW!!!

The M3 is one of the best handling and most fun to drive cars you can buy. The M5 is good as well, but hefty and even more fuel thirsty. A high mileage BMW is also going to cost a fair amount to maintain. Especially if out of warranty.

My vote goes for the M5. Laways been in love with that model ever since I first drove a 1988 M5. I have driven the M3 as well, and even though they are both fun, like others said the M5 is more classy and pratical.
