    glow gauges -> ebay

    chip is pretty much useless, cai and exhaust will give you a few ponies, but unfortunately if you want to do anything significant it's going to cost you. If you want to get around 15hp, you can get something like the eManage and retune a little on a dyno. That can yield the highest gain in the under $500 range. Anything over that and you're looking at having to spray or go F/I to get any gains worth noting.

    I don't know if Nitrous would be the best thing though... especially someone with a bone stock Corolla, he should make start with bolt-ons... incremental power upgrades that won't negatively impact his engine...

    The cheapest way of increasing performance is losing weight.

    Or just 1/4 tank gas all time. :)
    Oh, and take out the back seat, spare tire, jack, blah blah blah. Those will save you hopefully 200lbs=10hp gain! :D

    Yea I never fill up more than 3/4 tanks, I'm usually at 1/2 tank. Tho I would never get rid of my spare, it saved me from being stranded twice.

    But more about weight, in physics momentum = mass X velocity. So the more weight you drop, not only teh power to weight ratio increases but you can handle more lateral g forces and less Mu (coefficient of friction) from the brakes are needed to slow down/stop the vehicle.
