    Wheels stuck to hubs!

This has happened the past 2 winters. I go to take my steelies off last weekend and the bastards are stuck to the hubs. Last year I took my car to napa and has them get them off for me. This year I greased the hubs before I put my steelies on and kept my wheel covers on thinking roadsalt wouldn't get in there and sieze everything up, but it didn't work. I'd like to get them off myself. I've tried kicking them to break them loose but it doesn't work. Anybody else have this problem? Is there I surefire way I can break them loose?

    this actually worked for me...

when i mounted my rims, i knew i was gonna run into this coz when i got my brakes fixed, my mechanic ran into this problem too...

i got home from school, sprayed all the lugs with wd-40... waited for the rims to arrive... when they did, i had a little snack... then i mounted them...

loosen up all the lugs, then jack it up... then leave one lug on... then brace yourself then kick it with all your strength... its gonna pop off... coz thats what happened with me...

When I had my rolla, I used a mallet to get them off. Just a few simply hits on the tire and it came right off.

You can also loosen the lugs, lower the car slowly and the weight of the car will cause the wheel to break free from its location. Just don't lower the car all the way. Do it slow and controlled and you'll hear the wheel *pop* off the hub. jack it back up and you're good to go.

I've loosen really stuck hubs by backing the lugs off a hair - then rocking the car side to side to bust the corrosion off or drive back and forth a few times a bit and jumping on the brakes ot break them free. If that doesn't work - I'll repeat it with some penetrating spray - like PB Blaster (works great). All else fails - a little heat from a propane torch and couple of whacks with a small sledge or BFH will take care of it.

:D Actually - pretty funny you guys mentioned it. I saw two separate video clips a few yeears ago, that in one -the guy trying to use a rubber mallet on the wheel - accidentally hit the tire, bounced back and bust himself in the head. The other had some guy torching the wheel with an Oxygen / Acetylene torch - had way too much flame, ended up blowing the tire up from the excessive heat. Worked in the tire industry for a little while - seen all kinds of $hit done to wheels and tires - some of the dumbest ideas come from some of the smartest guys (at least "book" smart - zero common sense) there.

I kicked them as hard as ninjas kick your mom in the face and got them off. Rims are back on again, all is well in the world.

Put some Anti-seize on them next time. I had to use a prybar on the rolla's steelies today..put some antiseize on the backs of the Rotas, so we should be all set when it's time to swap again.
