    Lug nuts

Question for anyone who might know. I just lost one of my lug nuts for my TRD wheels, the lug nuts came from mcgard and I can order one, but for now I thought I'd buy a generic one just for safety so that I'm not driving on 3 lugs. Now here is my question.

The specs on the mcgard said M12 x 1.5, the one I got at a local Autozone is M12 x 1.25, it fits fine and it tighten just fine, but what is the 1.5/1.25 mean? is that the actual thread? the length? is there any concern about using the 1.25?

1.25 is the pitch, pitch means that there are that many turns in one milimeter of bolt. Hence it really shouldn't fit ans from what now our lug nuts shouls be M12 x 1.25, maybe its just a mis cast on TRD lugs

I'm still confused on this part of your reply "Hence it really shouldn't fit ans from what now our lug nuts shouls be M12 x 1.25, maybe its just a mis cast on TRD lugs"

Is our lug pattern M12x1.25? or is it M12x1.5? Okay so your saying 1.25 is the pitch which means the number of turn in one milimeter of bolt. Now is that the amount of thread in the bolt? Is that why you are saying if I got the wrong one, it shouldn't fit?

In more plain english for understanding sake, If the pattern is wrong does that mean the lug nut will sit against the wheel to hold it there? or does it just mess the threads on the bolts?

the number is the amount of thread basically... so in theory it shouldn't fit... if you force it on either it fuck up the thread on the nut or the wheel stud (depending which is softer, probably the nut)... so i'd try to find the right one (maybe Toyota Dealership)

yeah I already did, I tried to go back to autozone and exchange it but I was 12 minutes too late, they were already closed. I guess I'll just have to wait till tomorrow morning. In the meantime, to make sure I didn't fuck up anything, I switched the lugs around so I put one of the trd lugs where I used the generic 1.25 and it seems to bolt in there just fine. I torqued it and everything so I guess I am in good terms so far. I'll have to keep checking them for a while and see if they come loose again. Now all I have to do is just order one tomorrow from mcgard and have it shipped right away.

Just out of curiousity, if you fuck up the wheel stud, how do you fix it?

you take out the caliper so you can slip out the disk... then you aim the lug to the hole behind it (there's a metal covering behind the hub holding the lugs) then you hammer it out till it pretty much flies out of the hole... then when you put the new stud in, you put an open ended bolt on it... then tighten it all the way till the stud goes all the way through... then you put all the parts back together in reverse...

i know this coz i've done that... lol...
