Has anyone used Krylon Fusion on vinyl?

Has anyone used Krylon Fusion on vinyl?

I know how awesome this stuff works on plastic, but has anyone used it on thier vinyl surfaces as well? I'm going to be repainting my dash when it gets warm and wanted to see if I can just repaint the vinyl area on the passenger side (airbag) without any problems. As far as I can tell, it should work fine.

what color r u painting it neway?, i dont know about lighter colors but it sure works for dark colors, i know some1 who did the tuck and cover on their doorpanel in vinyl and painted it black, i couldnt tell till it was painted till they told me

It's going to be black. I already have some of my trim pieces painted gunmetal grey to match the exterior. Everything else in the car has already been painted black except for the dash itself.

Part of it is painted... the vinyl part. I'm going to paint the entire dash now.

I used the Krylon Fusion on my Vynil Parts and the never dried....I painted everything at the same time...everything else dried fine...but the vynil surface NEver dried.....I mean after 2 months it was still wet, I had to paint over it with normal paint just to get it to dry...now it looks like ass, but atleast I don't get paint on my sleeve everytime I put my arm on it.

Ah, that's good to know. I'll just mask off my vinyl area with blue tape before painting the dash then.

if it didnt dry then u prolly sprayed too much at once, i used Kyrlon Fusion for my entire interior cuz its all black and i have no problem with it. Its all smooth and it doesnt chip either so im satisfied. heres a pic of it..its with Krylon Fusion....

The $1 spray cans at walmart stick extremely well to vinyl, sucks for plastic though. Seems like a waste to use the expensive fusion stuff on vinyl.

I've been wanting to paint my dash all black also. Is there a way of removing the entire dash cause that's my big problem and its holding me back. I don't really want to tape over and cover cause I might accidently spray on something I don't need to be sprayed. So anyone know how to remove it and is it pretty easy?

I was trying to figure out if I had to repaint my vinyl section seperately or if I could just hit it at the same time when I'm painting the rest of the dash since it's attached to it. I do recall someone else having an issue with the fusion paint not drying. I think it was 98rollagyrl.

It can be taken out but I honestly don't think it's worth it, the only thing you need to really mask is the windsheild which is easy cause you can just slide newspaper inbetween the windsheild and dash. Everything else I took out so anything that could have been oversprayed was covered up.

fusion won't work on vinyl! it will just stay tacky forever! i called up krylon and they told me it wasn't made for that, and to take it off with mineral spirits. you need to use duplicolor's fabric and vinyl spray, it's awesome! i did my whole interior with it, shiny black. it took like 15 + cans, but it's awesome

yea...you have to use the.....duplicolor's fabric and vinyl spray.....

we use it at work when people trade in POS's....works great....




when i get some time ima use it to paint my A,B,an C pillars....(03-05 Corolla S/XRS's)

but cause they like light grey....an the dash is black...so...(i'll paint the pillars an change out the Headliner...an thats it for the interior)

it's not just the 03-05...the 01/02 S has the same issue...it's pretty retarded. i'm considering the same thing because i'm sick of looking at Toyota beige/grey.

I used molecubond, which chemically changes the color of vinyl. The black was a little light so I sprayed Krylon vinyl paint over that and it came out nice and shiny. Pretty easy to do actually.

how were u guys able to evenly spray that paint right under the windshield? were u able to keep that paint far away enough to not splatter it?

i used garbage bags and taped up my windshield as well as my seats, carpet, etc.

how long did it take you to do it all involving drying time?

prolly 5 hours but there were meals in between like when waiting to dry or coming out for fresh air

Yeah the masking and drying is what takes the longest time. The actual painting is quick. To get the stuff at the top of the dash, I used news paper, that way you don't get excess paint dripping and causing globs. You then just spray evenly 6-8 inches away, just as you would anywhere else.

Hmmm, so I guess if there's a "primer" layer on the vinyl, the Krylon Fusion will work fine then.

Those who painted their dashes with Krylon, do you have any issues with it being too shiney when driving during the day?

Nope. no issues with it being too shiny. It won't fade either. The only problem I'm having is that the surface isn't completely smooth, so it's hard to get rid of dust when it builds up on the dash.

so which brand stay on better cause my car is a daily driver and I have people in it on the weekends. I don't want to be constantly repainting an area where it gets scraped off and scratched easily.

Krylon Fusion. My car is daily driven... a lot... like I have to fill up with gas every 3 or 4 days kinda daily driven.
