is a 4age silvertop swap worth it?

i've been seeing a lot of decently priced 4age engines... 500-700 with tranny... is it worth the trouble? i remember seeing this one 8th gen corolla on ebay that has a 4age silver top... i wanna do that too.. as my big project while im in UTI or after i graduate... doc, ur gonna help me out right?

Why? I believe it is a less powerful engine than the 1ZZ? I may be mistaking, but I think you would be taking a step backwards.

    I say turbo or nothing.

The 4AGE Silvertop is 20 Valves (5 per Cylinder), it has ITB's and supposedly makes 165hp... but I don't imagine it would be the easiest swap in a ZZE110...

the 4age engines have a lot of potential, especially for boost.

but, to be honest, i think you would be better off just saving your money and time and buying a new car if you really want more performance. i'm not trying to discourage you, i am just being realistic.

but, hey man, it's up to you. if you have the cash, time and willingness i say go for it! anything is possible, especially with doc on our team. (well not really our since i no longer have a corolla, or toyota for that matter, haha)

    regardless, good luck! :)

for that much($1000 that you would pay for engine and shipping) you can get a i/h/e + emanage and make 160 hp N/A. you'd get more torque too with the 1zz(about 130 tq). Either do a 2zz swap or turbo the 1zz. thats your best bang for the buck right there. doc's coming out with a kit soon.

Maybe just maybe he doesn't want a new car plus a 3 grand engine swap is alot cheaper than a new car, just being realistic.

Need more than i/h(not availiable)/e and emanage for 160, all that would prob. hit 145 if your lucky

I'd say just go straight to a 3SGTE swap dude, I was gonna do that with my 8th gen when I had it. Yes it might be more money but hell if it's worth it

    i'm not exaggerating.

    http://www.wheelsjamaica.com/wheels...58b9b98e7983e279a7fc9ef&topic=19401.msg266007

if it hits 160 on a vvt-i 1zz with a little tuning you can hit 160 as well. plus the 98-2000 manifold has better flow characteristics, you might have to bore the tb/intake&exhaust ports to get the same results. but still its very achievable.

in terms of the header not being available i'm planning to make a custom one using an OBX header with all-custom piping after the collector including a bigger "downpipe", high-flow cat, and a mandrel-bent cat-back. oh yea i also plan to raise the rev limiter to 7k

ok...... first off.... a silvertop really only makes around 120whp..... secondly.... my smallport (16V) that dyno'd at all of 109.6whp has outrun a 2zz matrix and a 1zz mr-s (that mr-s had no chance, actually).... lastly.... a 1zz can rev to what, a pidly 6300? c'mon... gotta be able to get at least over 7,000.... the ae92 i'm hoping for ~8500'ish here soon.....

Probably worth it for experience - depending on where you live at, may not be a "legal" swap (older engine into a newer car).

Would probably have to ditch the A/C and maybe P/S for clearance - unless you want to make more modifications. If this a project car - I'd say go for it. The 4AGE (16 and 20 valve variants), 3SGTE, and 4AGZE are known to be hard to get, though I've also noticed more and more are available for a much better price than before (could be market saturation). Don't discount the 1ZZFE and 2ZZGE for possible swaps - they don't respond as well and some of the older engines to bolt ons - but still a decent engine to work on.

well yea. i thought we were talking about crank hp as he mentioned that the silvertop makes 165, and we all know thats crank.

if you beat all those cars it was probably a dumb driver or your car has weight reduction which would really help your acceleration. too bad serious weight loss isnt really possible on the 8th gen. i doubt anyone can get it close to 2000 lbs. cuz if someone pulled that off it would be a quick little car with 140 whp to boot :) .

who said it had to be a brand new car? he could EASILY get a faster car for $1500, and spend the other $1500 making it even faster.

I agree with the 3S-GTE swap. Doc said he'd help me with it when I'm ready. :)

    an ae92 sr5 is around 2200lbs factory..... it's lighter than my aw11

and my point about the HP ratings on ST 20V's is that they are overrated.....

Isn't silvertop/blacktop is over rated? They have only 140-145hp or so on crank.
And I think i/h/e with emanage 160hp for 1zz non-vvti 99 corolla is not really possible. 140hp is really good already.

I've heard from people here and 9thgencorolla.com, and Doc that the 2zz is not the right engine to turbo. Apparantly the compression ratio is too high or something.

wow!!! just one day this many replys... lol...

well, i guess from what people are saying, im better off in modding my 1zz-fe... i actually dont have a problem with that... another thing i like with the silvertop is its rpm range...

btw, silvertops run $500-700 3sgte run at $3k... so ima stick with the silvertop... i dont want to overpower my car... coz i knw, more power means more mods (brakes, tires, transmission etc...) but idk if my engine is still "healthy" enough to recieve boos... idk... i dont want an exploded engine after i install the turbo...
