Looking for a new suspension and have $$$

I've been looking around online for a new suspension. I was going to get some S Techs to lower the wheel well height for my Motegis, but after my Sunday autoX experience, I would like something to be comfortable enough for daily use, but I want to still be able to perform with them.

I heard someone say H Techs were good, but can you perform with them? One of my buddies has Konig Struts and Skunk 2 Coilovers on his prelude, but he says everyone tells him its really uncomfortable even on the smoothest setting. :) The SS Coilvers really aren't too much money, but I just don't know if I want to spend it.

I did see that HotchkisTuning has a Stage 1 TVS kit with springs and front/rear sway bars, but I've been told that the sway bars can bit really noisy.

I do not know about the ride height with the springs but the price seems nice for sways and springs.

Any advice would be great thanks.

Personally I haven't ridden in a car with coilovers, but my S-tech/Tokico blue combo is definitely not harsh. I don't know why people seem to have that misconception.

My H-Tech and Tokico HP Blue we're rough I found (I replaced all the bushings and mounts at the same time too, so the suspension was in tip top shape), I found rough enough...

I had S-tech on my 01. When I installed it in the first week, I thought it was too rough. But after that first week, I got used to it already and don't feel a thing now.

    Teevee,
That's what I keep coming back to. Its the most money, but its the most money. :) You know?

Tokico makes good stuff. I don't know if they make anything for us 9thgens though. I could be mistaken.

Tokico's are quite a bit stiffer than the KYB GR2's.

I meant quality wise :) But yeah, GR-2 are closer to OEM spec than the Tokico HPs are... or you could go KYB AGX or Tokico Illumina's nad have adjustable struts...

i know for a fact that the Tokico blues are some SOLID and high quality struts.

i have had them for years and i have rocked on them, very hard, and they still perform like new. progressive lowering springs, bump understeer, pot holes, all kinds of lateral stresses... these things are just some superb struts.

make sure they match with the springs and they will be awesome street struts. the eibach sportline springs i have mated with them i guess allow them to travel too much, but they are a nice ride when they are not maxing out under extreme cornering or harsh roads.

I don't belive they make either of the KYB AGX or Tokico Illumina for the 98-02 models, only their non-adjustable brethren. I believe you can get adjustable struts for the 9th gens, but don't quote me on which brands.

Keep in mind that the Konis are just an adjustable strut, so you'd have to buy some stiff springs or ground controls to go with them. On the other hand, the Tein SS is a full coilover setup that includes preload adjustment. If they come out to be nearly the same price, I'd definitely go with Tein SS.

also, if you're looking to auto-x more then maybe the Tein-S wouldnt be the best choice.
They lower the car alot and are fairly soft. You might want something with a higher springrate.

I think Koni and Tein are your only options for 03+

Tein SS dont give you much for what you're paying, soft spring rates, cannot adjust height without affecting spring rates, no upper pillowball mounts, non camber adjustability.

Personally I wouldn't run anything less then Flex, but I perfer Cusco to tein because the shock design is far superior as Tein use "needle" valve and cusco use full "rotating piston" designed by Kayaba (more commonly known here as KYB) and Showa.

Didn't know the difference between Tein and Cusco dampers, so I'll keep that in mind. I still personally favor Tein because of the EDFC though. Tein says the motors for the rear dampers interfere with the seatbelt retractors in the AE101, but I'm sure I could find a way to make everthing fit.

that only go for the 2dr Levin and Trueno. It's fine for the sedans. The brand you choose is personal perference really, I wouldn't tell others how to spend their monies (yes, plural for money).

JIC do make coilovers for 03+, so does Cusco.

ever since the jdm craze has caught on to america, tein suspension has dramatically raised their prices. I'm wondering, besides fitting your motegis what makes you want to get coilovers? what will you plan to be doing with your car? cause i'll tell you now, it sucks for hard launches if you wanna drag race. hella wheelhops.
