    timing

    hi all,
i have a 1984 1.6 carolla le that i need to put the timing belt on, and the head is off the engine right now. before i took the topend apart i was looking for timing marks but all i found was a mark on the cam gear. i did not at all find one on the crank gear. i have a repair book but it seems to not show much about it. now i know you have to have the # 1 piston up and on the cam. i think the valves should be closed but i'm not sure. so i wanted to know if anyone here has done this work before and can tell me what i need to do before i put the head back on or after to make sure when i put the new belt on that it is on time the first time. i can take pic's and show you all what i am working with if you'd like. thanks. o yea, this engine is a 4ALC 1587cc
