i'm checking out a new car, but something seems stange...

alright guys, lately i've been in the market for a clover green pearl 99-00 civic ex coupe. anyway, i found a listing for just what i am looking for, but there is no EX badge on the trunk which seems strange. the salesman said it used to belong to his partner's daughter, and i don't think she would have debadged it. do you guys think that maybe it is an LX or HX and they are trying to pass it as an EX? i will take a closer look when i go check it out for an outline or ghost effect. and is there anyway to visually distinguish the D16Y8 from the engines offered in the other trims?
also there is no front honda emblem, which is also strange. but i can tell it's a honda, haha.

    what do you guys think?
and i know i should post this in a honda forum, but honda forums tend to suck and i just love VVT-I.net! ha.
    thanks guys.

rule #1 in car buying - never buy a woman-owned car. especially one driven by a teenager.

make sure to carfax it for accidents and all that stuff, make sure that a mechanic you trust checks it out inside and out before you purchase it, it's a pain in the *** it seems but it'll save u from much more pain later on

This is a long shot but maybe the EX just fell off. It happened with the "S" on my car which only encouraged me to debadge-heh. Lol, I walked out to my car one day and was like something looks odd...took me about 10 minutes to realize the S was missing.

The options look right for an EX... nice looking car too, I loved the shaved grills on the EK's...

    Its an aftermarket grille.

It def. had to of fallen off on its own. I mean if it had been stolen some one would have fishing lined it, then goo goned the tape off (which I don't think they would have done) There was no sticky stuff at all so I think pressume Toyota just didn't put it on right or something.

I would probably venture to say that judging from the missing badges that car has had some sort of body work done to it. You can carfax it, but that is not always 100% if the repair was not done throug insurance. I know since I fixed dents and scratches on my car (ice falling on the roof/door sill) and it came out of pocket never being reported to carfax/insurance. I say take it to a body shop for evaluation, they can tell right away if it has been reapinted or not.

Like always, buyer's beware, and if it has bodywork, that is your bargaining chip there if you still want the car.
