1ZZ-FE R.I.P ( xxx damn turbo! @#$%@)

the honda guys do it all the time. just blow motors and get new ones. you might even be lucky enough to get a motor that lasts awhile and you can learn from your engine tuning mistakes

Blowing and engine definitely makes you learn more about how your car works cause that's what happened to me. Sucks that you blew the motor, but coming from that a better stronger setup should follow. Good luck on the next project man.

As funny as this sounds, it's one of the biggest plusses of doing a turbo setup instead of an engine swap. An nice JDM engine might run you $1500-$2500, and if you blow that, ouch. (Though you can get the long block a lot cheaper and just replace that if the swap's already done).

Turbo your stock 4A, 7A, or 1ZZ on the other hand, and if you blow it up, no big deal. It's not hard to pick up a used engine (even a 1ZZ) for around $300, swap it out in a few hours, and you're off and running again.

Of course, I've never blown an engine running a turbo, and I don't recommend the engine repacement route as the standard procedure, it's just nice to know that you have options.

theres a yard by my house that sells 4 popper blocks with heads for 65 bucks (as long as they have it on the grounds)... so its all just a matter of them having the one you need at the time you need it. I think its only shipping added if you need to bring one in...

yeah after i got the turbo on the car seemed to run decent but i kept it under 2500 rpms and hit absolutely NO boost at all and slowly drove it to a tuner so nothing would happen...

tuning is the key to not blowing the motor... but hindsight doesnt help....

however remember it may not have been the turbo completely.... the engine may have been going bad already....

Yeah I'm going to tear the motor down in a few weeks and find out what went wrong. I'm still not convinced it was detonation because the motor was running so god aweful rich. I think something just died under the stress of full boost up hill. I'm still thinking about weather or not I'm going to revive the Corolla to full turbo status. I think I might just toss a create engine in it and sell it off and then sell the turbo kit on the side. I just don't know if the Corolla is ever going to be the car I want it to be. I'm looking at some older MR2 2.0L turbo's right now. I'm going to see if thats the car I really want or maybe start looking for my Supra again. I have not made a firm decision yet but I think the only way I'm going to be super happy is if I have a car that is under 0-60 in 5sec with some mad handling and RWD or AWD.

What 0-60 time are you running anyways?
