    spare tire compartment cover

how can I cover up the area where the spare tire goes so I can mount my subs in the trunk without having that flexy carpet crap in there? I just want to get rid of it because it is bending down really bad when I put the subs in. They are heavy subs....

replacing it with a custom cut wooden base is an option. another option is cutting an aluminum or some other metal piece to fit.

you can leave them like that or put carpet on top to make it look nice.

    just some ideas.

There wasn't a thin piece of hardboard in a D shape that covered the hole? I had a thin piece of hardboard glued to the bottom of the carpet padding on my 2002. I don't remember if that was OEM or aftermarket.

For different options - check out this spare tire well sub enclosure (sometimes called a bathtub sub box) - makes it look very professional.

That would mean removing the spare tire - but you always carry a can of fix-a-flat instead or throw spare on top of the enclosure.
