Running wires to the battery and speakers

How hard is it to run wires to the battery? Do you need to drill a hole in the firewall? How much of the part under the steering wheel do you need to take apart to do this? Ditto for running wire to the doors, I see the little thing that the wires go through to the doors but it just seems like a bitch to get to it. I'm afraid of moving all those wires in there aside and never being able to get it closed again! haha
I'm not planning on doing anything right know but just been thinking of stuff for system etc in the future.

Finally. this may be a retarded question but do you just connect an amp straight to the battery terminal or to a relay off the battery somewhere?

    Thanks all

ok as for running the wires to the battery.. there are rubber bungs that you can pull wires through the firewall, as for the doors, all you need to do is pull the door pannel, switches ETC, run the wires through that wire holder thingy, no worries about the door not closing again it will trust me.

the amp, hook it up to your battery on the posatave side and ground it to the chassies as close to the amp as possable (just run a screw through the body on an unpainted surface somewhere in your trunk, if there is none make one) then run the remote wire to your deck so the amp will only turn on when the car is on.

and with what it sounds like your in car electrical expierance is, you might want to leave installs to teh pros so as you don't fry your battery or your self.

what year is your corolla? i have some pics from when I installed mine in my 02. I had zero experience with this and it turned out awesome. I bought a 25 dollar wiring kit from walmart and had a few hand tools with me. Let me know if my pics will help, i'll upload them or send them to you.

HAha im an MS electrical engineering student and ive installed cold cathodes as well as changed all my lights in the console to red leds as well as installed blue LED's in the AC vents so not as dumb as I sound.
I'm more afraid of the physical stuff ie getting wires through the firewall. Also I'm not afraid of the door closing, that came out wrong, ive changed my speakers too so i know how the door works (stock wiring) but I'm afraid of the inside the car portion where there are a million wires near where the wires go throguh the guy into the door.
Know about the ground issue as well was just wondering on the + terminal.

I understand the electrical for the most part (aside from the do you connect straight to the battery or not question) more afraid of not being able to get all the wires in place to put the car back together!

2001 corolla. I had a buncha pics but I gotta rehost em (don't worry I have webspace too just too lazy to do it)

oh no, i as just going to show you how i routed my power cable through the firewall. i had to cut a small hole into the gromet where the existiing wires were going through the firewall. As for routing cables through the door, i've done it before when i installed aftermarket power door locks. it's a little tricky but you should be fine. In the event that you can't get them through, you can fish them through with something like a metal hanger.

i ve run a few wires to my doors for speakers and turn signals. the way i did it was shove a hanger through from the door side into the car. its kinda hard to reach where the hanger will come out but its doable. then i just duck taped the wires to the hanger really good. it helps if you lubricate the wires, and then just carfully yank on the hanger with some pliers and the wire should slip right through.i have some pics of where the hanger goes in and comes out and what not, if youd like. jsut let me know and ill send them to you

I get your jist but if your bored and want to send them to me just email them to ardy@ardythe1manparty.com

What about the firewall to get a wire to the battery. That seems even worse. The jumble of wires in there is insane.

Also the funny thing is Toyota apparently installed and uinstalled an alarm in my car. There is a harness with a inline fuse and everything for what looks like an alarm harness but then they took it out! There was also a wire flying under my steering wheel connected to nothing! It had 2 ends with a small harness on each end too... probably something else for the alarm....
