just wanted to share my story with you guys.
some of you know this already, but i think i finally got my problem resolved.

i bought a new crv back in oct. '07. within 2 months or so of ownership, i noticed the car pings when accelerating hard, going up a hill or under normal acceleration. i thought i was hearing things. as time went on, it got worst n worst. had it checked by the dealer and i was given the bs excuse of bad gas, try supreme unleaded. last year summer, on my way up to whistler - the CEL started to flash on me as i was accelerating up this long hill.
went for a 2nd visit at the dealer, they told me they found no codes stored in the computer for the flashing CEL and my pinging is bad gas, try supreme again. they asked me, are you sure it's not the traction control icon u saw flashing?? NO! i'm not stupid, i know the difference between the CEL and traction control icon!
they did some software updates for my traction control and it seemed to help a bit. confirmed it still pings and recommended me to try supreme.

all of december last year and this january, supreme unleaded was used for the car and pinging still there. only difference is it will ping when rpm's reached over 4k w/supreme and with regular gas, it pings anywhere from 1500 rpm and up. i booked for a 3rd visit last week at the dealer. they called honda canada and asked for advice. they checked my timing which imo, should have been done on the very first visit!
did some more software updates and replaced my knock sensor.
after the updates, tranny seemed to shift at higher rpm. seems like the updates had to do with the tranny - maybe.
so far, so good - problem have not returned and no pinging whether rpm goes up to 4k and beyond. only time will tell, hopefully it's resolved for good.

i'm happy now with my car. whether i will buy another honda in the future - will have to wait and see. my very first honda and so much probs.
the dealer did restore my faith in honda and were fairly nice to me.

seemed ridiculous to ask you to use premium gas on a regular car. that alone should have indicated that there was a problem.

hopefully, the problem is resolved for good.

it is. every dealer will most likely tell you the same thing if your car pings.
easy way out for them. they hope u try it and wont go back and bug them about the problem - especially if it's under warranty!

if any of you have pinging in your new or old car and adjusting the timing and tune ups dont get rid of it, rip out your knock sensor and get a new one. :D
it would be cheaper replacing the sensor than filling up premium all the time and it's not guaranteed to work

it's exactly one week today and i've been running on full tank of regular since last week when they fixed the problem. so far, i've been revving the car, flooring it and no pinging. so i guess the problem is fixed.
i know a few people with hondas that ping and dealers keep telling them to use supreme. it will get rid of pinging at low rpm's, but depending on the car - supreme may not totally get rid of the pinging.
like my crv, supreme didnt get rid of the pinging.

i was determined to get it fixed coz pinging for a brand new car aint normal.
i'm happy i did coz now i can use regular gas at $0.87/litre :D

i just couldnt stop laughing and shaking my head when i saw this story. :D
when a law enforcement person wearing a gun and have pepper spray or taser ask you to do something, you do it. you dont ask him or her to say please. idiot! :Ewned:

    ******************
    http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Re...s Coquitlam pepper sprayed/1353169/story.html

A Coquitlam man who demanded courtesy from a U.S. border security guard says he was pepper sprayed and held in custody for three hours for asking the disrespectful officer to "say please" when ordering him to turn his car off during a search.

"I refused to turn off the car until he said please. He didn't. And he has the gun, I guess, so he sprayed me," said Desiderio Fortunato, who frequently crosses the border to visit his second home in the state of Washington. "Is that illegal in the United States, asking an officer to be polite?"

The incident occurred on Monday at the Aldergrove border crossing, shortly after 12 p.m. Fortunato, a dance studio director, was travelling to his home in Blaine, Wash., to retrieve a wallet his wife had left during their most recent visit.

He said he was questioned by a border officer who demanded he turn off his car and, when asked to make the request more politely, threatened to spray him with his pepper gun if he did not comply.

"I just felt I should stand my ground about it. I should not be treated like that. No matter what kind of position you are in, if you want respect you have to show respect," he said yesterday. "I asked him three times and when I didn't turn the car off, because he didn't say please, he pepper sprayed me.... It was terrible. For half an hour or so I couldn't see anything."

Fortunato said after he was sprayed he was forcefully taken into custody by several officers. He was held for three hours before he was released without being allowed entry into the United States. Fortunato says he was dismissed with a warning to be more cooperative in the future.

A spokesperson for U.S. Customs and Border Protection said officers are trained on how to handle confrontation, and refusal to comply with a direct order is justification to use capsicum spray, also known as pepper spray, or other "soft techniques" such as physical holds.

"The combination of training and experience is what our officers use to communicate with passenger on a day-today basis. Our officers will give direct orders or commands to passengers, especially in situations where there may be a safety concern. It is the obligation of the passenger to be compliant with those," said spokesperson Mike Milne.

He added that officers order border passengers to turn of their vehicles when they want to take somebody from a car and, in such cases, further questioning would be conducted inside the building.

While he could not comment on the specific case, Mr. Milne said the use of force at a border crossing is very rare, very serious and subject to immediate review.

By his own admission, Mr. Fortunato is a stickler for courtesy and respect. The Portuguese native, who has lived in B.C. for 25 years and has owned his second home in Washington for three, pulled a similar stunt at the same border crossing about one year ago. In that case, he was ordered to wait hours to be questioned before being allowed to cross.

Once, he said, he asked a Canadian border agent to be more polite when requesting documents, to which the agent responded with a sheepish "please."

    great...

i have the stability control in my car now and it doesnt do much.
it's helpful in some winter driving scenarios, but usually it's more annoying than useful. many times i had to turn the damn thing off in snow or ice so i can get moving.

    Ottawa proposes mandatory stability control

Ottawa, Ontario - The federal government has proposed a new safety regulation that would make electronic stability control (ESC) standard on all light-duty vehicles for sale in Canada, beginning September 1, 2011.

The proposal is similar to a final rule enacted in the United States, where ESC will be mandatory on all light-duty vehicles, beginning September 1, 2011 for model-year 2012.

“Our government recognizes that electronic stability control technology saves lives,” said Transport Minister John Baird. “This safety feature is already available on many models, and it goes hand-in-hand with increasing the safety of Canadians and improving the quality of life for drivers and their passengers.”

Data gathered by Transport Canada indicates that vehicles equipped with ESC were involved in approximately 30 per cent fewer severe collisions involving driver loss of control than non-ESC vehicles. Based on 2006 collision data, there would be at least 225 fewer deaths and 755 fewer people seriously injured each year if all passenger vehicles were equipped with the system.

The proposed regulation was published on March 14, and will be followed by a 75-day response period when interested parties may provide their comments to Transport Canada.

i watched a clip on 5th gear where they were in iceland testing cars with bosch's esp. they did an emergancy manuveure. a car with out it plowed right through while esp kept it under control

i thought it was a cool clip. didn't think esp would make that much of a difference but if it does it's amazing

(Side note, I actually like how the new M3 looks at the front... not fond of the new tail lights tho, looks like the ugly Sebring tail lights. I'm not just saying, I still don't like the 10th gen Corolla to this day, but maybe some of you think the 9th gen is ugly lol)

(Another side note, way to have the government add a mandatory $500 piece of equipment [ESC] onto our cars, no wonder our cars are so expensive)

Finally got the rims I bought off TRDood on (thanks!)!!!
