i like the auction as well.... but i pay extra for the speed channel (not sure why), and 95% of the time i switch over it's nascar, nascar, nascar...... it was great when there was a lot of WRC & F1 coverage, but now it's like watching porn - you gotta wait until 2am sunday nights to watch it....

U sure bout that? Speed is owned by News Corp, which is Fox/FX....not sure if Turner has dough in Fox. (Actually, I dont think he does. Turner is TNT, CNN, etc) Rupert Murdoch is the fox man, hence nascar being shown on Fox and F/X the last few years

    Man, Nascar...

How can anybody stand to watch that crap for more than 2 hours? Its so boring. At least with F1 the speeds are higher and theres more skill involved. How can they call that crap "stock car racing"? When they crash, its just wheels and fiberglass everwhere.

Good luck with that speed channel. Make sure to limit yourself to less demographics.

Well, Nascar has a huge following...more so than any other form of racing. And to say no skill is involved is crazy.

F1 racers need lots of skill, and Im a hufe F1 fan, but everything is so technologoicallly advanced on those cars that its more car than driver.....which is why most races theres only 5 cars left at the end of the race. And in many instances, theres only 5 cars remaining at the end of the first lap :)

you think that there's more skill in nascar than in f1? wow.... you MUST be a nascar fan... however, there's no way you can argue there's more skill in nascar than in the WRC... car or not you need to be damn near perfect to win

haha, this is so wrong, but....

    when nascar drivers turn right:

Did I say Nascar drivers need more skill? Show me where I said that.

And WRC racing is not car to car racing...time trials and head to head racing are in two different classes.

I like them both (F1 and MASCAR) for different reasons. Can't really compare the two - different as Country Fried Steak and Filet Mignon.

Technology wise - one could argue that F1 is superior to NASCAR. But it depends on where you look. F1 has its gadgets, huge engineering budgets for aero work and engine development, exotic composite bodies and brakes, "automatic" transmissions - lots of electronic, exotic components, stuff that could benefit future car development. NASCAR is low tech in the drivetrain and body design - but that is for easily spotting "cheaters" and have everyone running nearly the same equipment. NASCAR also has lots of tech in the aerodynamics of the car - since they all have to meet dimensional limits, you find some of the most craftiest engineers working on these cars.

The race itself is completely different - in F1, you generlly pick up on the guy that is driving the smoothest, because he will be running up front. Think poetry in motion. NASCAR - more about villian and hero type of attitude. Lots of bumping and pushing around in there. No so much "racing" but more man vs. man in NASCAR. I'll bet that in a single NASCAR race than there is more mano-e-mano drama BS, even between team mates, that in a whole season of F1.

Skill level between the two - hard to say. Could argue it out either way - you know you have skils when you're driving in F1. Just look at Michael Schumaker - he is a machine at F1. Other F1 legends - Ayrton Senna, Nikki Lauda, Nigel Mansel, Alain Prost, and more - from all over the world, F1 being a truely global event.

NASCAR you need fortitude and a knack for drafting others (innate timing). Look at legends Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Lee Petty, Curtis Turner, and Jeff Gordon. Dale Earnhardt especially - driving within inches of someone's bumper to either upset their line or push them through a pack.

Although I would like to see more diversity - can't argue the commercial success of NASCAR. Money talks in this business. That's why I program the DVR to watch the ones I want later.

Micheal Shumacher is a racing great....but I honestly think that was due to not having much competition during his years of domination. Finally, there are a few that can hold their own against him.
Anyone that says there is no skill in oval racing obviously has never personally raced in an oval race.

Fishexpo hit the nail on the head..really no comparison between the two.

I'm surprised none of you have called for shows about imports. I can't really watch the speed channel anymore, because I hate both NASCAR and the Barrett Jackson Auction. They really need some more variety in their programming, because it seems those those two shows are the bulk of what they have in their lineup.

Car shows don't have to be hyped and glorified junk. I wrote on the petition I'd like to see more "test drive" type shows that focus on street legal cars, like Top Gear.

Speed has a show called "Test Drive," but it consists of two boring guys driving around a track conducting an interview. I DON'T GIVE A FUCK WHAT JEFF GORDON THINKS ABOUT THE C6! Run the C6 head to head with a Mustang GT and a GTO... then I might be more interested.

You hit the nail right on the head!

They have Motor Trend TV and another one, but those shows are like watching your grandpa test drive a car. I want a STIG!!! I want to see these cars pushed around in clever tests and segments like Top Gear.

I was so happy when Top Gear was on the Discovery Channel, then I got so depressed when it was taken off.

They could have a more import geared show. Best Motoring is GREAT if you can get over the sub-titles and overly-apathic english announcer.

UGH bunch of rich ass folks buying cars....drab *Yawn
CAR CRAZY...how much makeup can one man wear? wait is that on speed?
Pimp my ride and shit...all those shows can burn in hell...holly shat I can't believe what they did to a 240 on that damn show...car was disgusting...hell most of those cars are lame show cars. nothing practical...but oh well...that's what the ricing populous wants to see...easier to sell to them anyway.

AND THE TOYOT VAN??? NO SIDE SKIRTS...the damn thing didn't match all around...

Guess cause I'm a functionality guy and not a "how loud can my car be" guy...

I like the acution too..but in moderation...I like all those shows...but nothing gets my blood pumping more than a good F1 race, or WRC...or a good episode of trucks or something, at least on that show your normal joe can actually do SOME of those mods.

They need to have a little bit of everything...except pimp my ride shows...overhaulin...eh...a little...but it needs to be what it used to be...primarily a racing sation

Pimp my ride sucks, and WCC even admits to that. Its purely a gimmick show.

They were featured on Overhaulin helping Foose with a Chevelle I believe, and throughout the entire show, WCC was bashing Pimp My Ride. The owner of WCC went on that show to show what they REALY do, and what theyre actually known for, which is NOT the crap on Pimp

indeed... if you've often looked at the rides in WCC, they don't do crap rides. Kinda shame they got tossed out there and turned into a joke.
