    God Damn Skylight!!!

OMG! When we were out working on the Turbo yesterday we heard a big crash and ran up stairs to find that one of the panes of glass in my skylight just desinigrated. I wonder what the hell did it. nothing touched the glass to make it break. Must have been prolonged pressure or the extreme cold or something. Holy shit. Has this ever happened to any of you?

Looks like single pane glass. I think something did hit it. I've had some windows in my house crack because of a seal failure. Water vapor got into it and it and it went through temperature changes and cracked. It didn't shatter like yours.

Either something hit it, or you had an earthquake and the frame skewed and shattered the glass. Thats my best guess.

Any ice buildup on the roof?

Yeah.. check for potatoes too. :)

Hahaha, well the thing is the outside glass is fine, only the inside pane blew out.

That sounds reasonable. I'll see what the insurance adjuster says when he gets here.

I'm actually hoping that I can find a direct replacement skylight so I can use the existing flashing that is already installed on the roof. It would be nice just to pull out a few screws and drop a new skylight into place without having to do anything else. That would make me pretty happy. But if I have to hire someone to fix it then its going to probably cost more then my deductible so I'll just pay it.

Hm... Do you have a heat register or vent right under your window?

Most windows I've seen have trim on the outside that gets popped off. The sides of the glass are shimmed and foam taped in. Someone from a glass company should be able to get a piece to fit and install it in no time. (worked at a glass company) It might need to be ordered if it's an odd size or thickness. Good thing there is still some glass to keep water out!
