keep us up to date on the problem. i'm quite surprised that the engine would fail like that.

Just a TRD drop-in air filter. Its a Toyota part so it should be covered. Oil changes I do on my own with synthetic and a OEM oil filter. Those are the only engine related things.

I have a Front Tower bar, front grill, springs, audio, but none of those should affect it so I hope they don't point to any of those. The audio is only pushing a 150W sub so its entry level.

make sure you have all your oil change records. ie receipts from buying oil, filters etc. they might claim you didn't do the proper maintainance.

I usually throw away the oil ones since I get them at Superstore or Walmart, so they get tossed with the grocery receipts, etc. But oil filters are on Toyota invoices so I keep those and I have enough to prove I change it every 3 months. Plus the parts person remembers me. The last one was bought early July when I did my oil change so its been only 1 month since.

whatever the problem is, you should be covered under warranty.
you don't have any intake or any serious mods on the car.

i'm guessing it's probably to do with your emissions or injection/fuel system.
unfortunately, toyota quality nowadays is not as good as say... 10+ yrs ago.

i know someone who bought a brand new 04 camry and last year during its routine maintenance at the dealer - they told the owner he's got a leaking water pump! 2yrs old and the water pump is leaking! this person also have a 2000 sienna - bought brand new. i think after its 3rd year or so, started having all sorts of problems. the tranny had problems and luckily it was covered by warranty.

my old 03 corolla started having little annoying problems on 2nd year until i traded it in last year for my crv.
my crv is not even 1yr old and it's got problems too.
quite bad when u buy a brand new honda or toyota and you start to run into problems in the first year or so. might as well buy a gm or ford or chrysler.

Turns out they had to replace the ECM. I asked if this was a common problem and he said it was.

    found this site. really interesting.
remember those canadians who bought cars from US last year and they cannot register the cars in canada... now they can!
the site is all about buying cars from the US and how we, as canadians are getting ripped off big time.
it's also interesting to see that you can now buy pretty much any kind of car from US - even a 2009 model, but it has to be "used", not brand new.

i think it's more like an information site so you dont get ripped off.
they provide all the info needed to buy a vehicle from USA and i saw some US dealers adversting on the site which is more or less guaranteed by the site that they're good dealers u can buy from.
they also have this list of which car/year you can buy from US and what's needed to bring it home - whether u need to modify the bumper or add DRL, etc. quite an interesting site to read if you have time.

september - back to school, traffic, rain... :wallbash:

    ***********************

so there's an accident in front of my work about an hour ago.
yaris 2 door vs. a full size mercury grand marquis. the mercury ran the red light i think and the yaris slammed right into the mercury's passenger side rear door/rear wheel area.
the yaris airbag deployed, whole bumper fell off/ripped away, front support pushed all the way back to the engine, hood buckled. damage on the yaris is prolly at least $3-4k or more.

the mercury suffered a big scratch and dent on the rear door, dent on rear wheel area and that's it. barely any damage. :D:D

probably more than that. air bags cost a fortune to replace.

i wouldn't be surprised if they wrote it off.

it's amazing to see that with such big damage to the yaris, the driver who was prolly in his 50's was standing at the corner smoking and talking to VPD.

also amazing to see that such little damage was done to the mercury. im guessing the mercury is a rental car coz it looked very new and the driver/passenger looked like tourists.

with how icbc operates, they would prolly fix the yaris. i know someone with a 2000 sienna involved in an accident, got rear ended by a full size dodge ram truck. damage of over $10k!
icbc fixed it up and it looks good as new.

i guess if you want safety on the road, big american cars FTW! :D

well as long as the cost doesn't go over i think 70% of the car's cost at that time, its not a right off...

any meet going on on nov 2nd?

i thought about flying to seattle that weekend. i would arrive at 7pm on the 1st. drive right away to vancouver, spend the night somewhere (prolly in my car hahaha) then meet up with you guys .. and drive back early enough to catch my 8pm return flight.

    is it doable?

    yo rick.

that's really tight. you arrive in seatac at 7pm, rent a car, blah blah... by the time u leave seatac, prolly more like 8pm. you get to vancouver around 11pm or so. meet with guys (hopefully) on the 2nd and head back to seatac for your 8pm flight. so you would have to leave vancouver by 3-4pm to make your 8pm flight. if you take away the time u sleep, you prolly have around 7 hrs in vancouver. :D

you mentioned u wanna visit whistler too, it's a good 1.5 hr drive (at least) from downtown vancouver. i suggest you leave early in the morning around 7.30am for whistler. visit squamish, shannon falls, etc. on the way up and you will be in whistler before noon. spend 2hr max up there and come back down and straight to seatac.

you should maybe try to come out oct. 31st and leave nov. 2nd.
i may not be able to meet you that weekend as i got stuff going on at that time.

i've messaged eugene, hopefully he will post up soon.

    So what's everyone up to?

I've started school again. BCIT computer information technology. Probably end up doing database admin since that seems to be where all the jobs are. Hopefully, the economy will pick up by the time I get out.

    i'm at the burnaby campus.
this week is extremely busy with assignments and quizes. the courses aren't hard but since i've never done any programming it's hard for me. the people who have some experience with it just whip through the labs.

interesting article about 8th gen corollas (1998 - 2002). apparently they have oil consumption problem and fuel system problem.
and i'm surprised to see a 2002 CE is now worth only $6000+

i read that same article. i've never heard of the problem before. i wonder if it affects later cars.

the new microsoft campus actually doesn't hire canadians. it's specifically for foreigners who couldn't get US visa's because the slots are full. sounds strange but it's how they get around US labour rules.
