    2006 Toyota RAV4 - Car & Driver

*** Stats from the RAV4 Limited, the Sport is suppose to have a better suspension and larger wheels, so it should handle even better (but as is, the handling seems to be great for an SUV) ***

So let's see what other SUV's could give the RAV4 a good run...

    Porsche Cayenne S (4.5 V8 w/ 340hp) - 0-60 in 6.9 s and 1/4 mile in 14.9 @94.9mph @ $68,760

    BMW X5 4.4i (4.4 V8 w/315hp) - 0-60 in 6.9 s and 1/4 mile in 14.9 @ 94.5mph @ $60,295

So there are a few SUV's as fast (or faster, like the Cayenne Turbo or X5 4.6i), but for the price, I mean wow! Maybe Toyota is getting back into PERFORMANCE :) An odd starting point perhaps, but if it is an actual starting point for more performance, I don't care where its starting :)

It is still a crossover SUV, and even though it may have the right performance numbers, a sports car it is not. The RAV4 is nice, but it can't really compare to a Porsche or BMW. Not that they are sports cars either, but they have other performance bits built into them (brakes, suspension, etc.)

I think the Rav 4 turning out so fast was more of an accident than anything else. I definitely don't think it was planned that way, because they aren't marketing its performance at all.

I like it too, I've been looking very seriously at it for my next choice.
