If only I could keep all of that! Most all of that 149k is going to my grandparents, who lent me 95k for part of my downpayment on my current house, since my old house hadnt gone to closing yet. We closed on it on Wednesday, which is why its not available yet. The bank holds it for 3 days before releasing it to me. The rest is going into savings, paying off some bills, and buying us a new kitchen (countertops, flooring, undermount sink, and new cabinets)

For some reason - I kind of find that funny.

Very true - depending on where you live at. I used to think that a few hundred bucks was big money. Moved over here for the job, and now thousands of dollars is nothing new, with the higher cost of living. Shoot, even daycar for my son is $1500/month - and they want one check every first of the month.

Totally different way of thinking here - I don't even call a thousand of dollars a "grand" anymore - more on the order of $5000 = nickel, $10,000 = dime, etc. I blame work for that kind of thinking.

I hear that! Im paying close to 1000 a month for my sons daycare as well. Its money well spent though, because his center is top notch. Hes 4, so its a little cheaper. When he first started when he was 2.5, we were paying about 1400 a month.

And the 900 in debt...heh. Luckily my college was paid for, but my wife had to get loans. So we have about 25k in school loans we're paying off. With the money from our old house, we paid off both cars, that mortgage, a home equity loan, a signature loan, and 3 credit cards. And we have the above left over.

Cops make crap money. Im working in the television news agency business now....cant make 6 figures in law enforcement.

Yeah, my house wasnt sold yet, and to get a better interest rate, they lent me some money for a downpayment, in addition to the money I already had for a downpayment. I put 200k down on my new house. 95k is chump change to them.

I could not agree more. Cost of living here in the DC metro area is outrageous. Then again, we get payed appropiately for the most part.
