I was just wonderin the diff between the s & xrs. besides the vvti & vvtli 6spd

look on the toyota website. they have whatever you need to know

about 50 horses, sporty suspension, 6 speed, sticker price, and some slight cosmetic differences.

Lower, better looking interior, expensive, faster, fun, cool looking guage, bigger rims, color matched front grill...

the XRS is a quarter inch shorter from bottom of the frame to the roofline...

What does that accomplish?

Lower center of gravity.

I know that's a result, but was that truly Toyota's intention? It's strange to see body differences between two trim levels of a car, especially an economy car.

how about for 2001 LE and S...wats da diff of those 2??

I'm assuming just the interior styling and the kit...

2005 S and XRS...

S : 1ZZ-FE (VVT-i) - 130hp - 5 Speed Manual / 4 Speed Auto.
XRS: 2ZZ-GE (VVTL-i)- 170hp - 6 Speed Manual

XRS uses basically the same body kit as the S, but with 16" wheels over the 15" ones, the car is slightly lower (something like 0.25") with slightly firmer spring rates and struts... it also comes with front and rear strut bars (the rear one prevents the fold down seat, as in every other Corolla)... The XRS has disc brakes at all 4 corners versus the front disc/rear drum combo of every other Corolla)... The XRS has a body colored grill (the rest do not)... You can feel the difference of the suspension in the XRS versus the S (or other Corolla's), it feels more sporty and controlled, yet still very comfy...

For the '01 S compared to other models, all the differences are just cosmetic (except for different spring/strut rates), so basically the interior (the S is alot nicer imo, with the all black with red lighting), and the suspension feels a touch better (not that much though, and definitely not up to the level that a good aftermarket one would give you...)

I didn't know that the 00-01 S had a sportier suspention... HUMMM... that mees me feel bad... cause the only diffrence in the 03-05S and the other non XRS models is cosmetic...

i thought 01-02 S hav same suspension as any other 01-02 rolla...

It doesn't matter, because why would you keep stock suspension if your gonna do something to your car. Also wat does the GE stand for in 2ZZGE? I know FE is fuel economy.

The letter designations don't really stand for anything - they just call the FE variant "fuel economy or fuel efficient" and the GE the "performance" variant. Someone probably way back labeled it "fuel economy" to help people remember which one is the non-performance version.

If it is worth the extra money to go with the XRS over the S - depends on what you want and how you are going to drive it. Just the parts alone: 6-speed tranny, discs brakes all around, and the 2ZZ-GE engine - easily make up the difference in price, making the XRS a good deal from the factory. But if you plan on dumping some money into it - then might as well save up as much in the beginning and customize it the way you want.

Is the ssbs disc brake conversion worth it and will it work on my 05

Probably depends on how you drive and what you want. SSBS makes very good systems (the ones for the Celica and Matrix are available in a fixed caliper mount design for more braking power). But will require larger wheels.

Wilwood also makes excellent brake systems for our cars. Stoptech, AEM, and some others are also other good choices.

still 170, 164 is the new SAE power rating. nothing has changed from 05-06 as far as the motor is concerned

Tru, for 2006 it is down to 164 because of the new SAE J1349 testing procedures for engine horsepower (which is completely optional for auto manufacturers, they can still use the old way, but Toyota decided to certify all their engines with the new, supposedly more accurate, standard), but the engine is identical to the one that was in the 2005 XRS, just different ways of measuring the horsepower...
