HELP: how to keep bare metal from rusting?

Is there any other method besides painting it?

I was having rust spots on my strut bar where the metal have chipped off.. So I was ready to repaint it. I aircraft stripped the whole thing and decided it looked way better with the bare metal color. But how do I keep the bare metal look without the whole thing rusting over?

I went to walmart to look for a clear coat paint earlier. It was a toss up between Rust-o-ium which is formulated to trap and protect against rust and DupliColor clear engine enamel which was rated for heat up to 500deg. I wasn't sure how well the rust-o-lium would hold up in the engine bay so I went with the DupliColor. I sanded off all the rust and did 3-4 coats. Hopefully it'll hold up.

You should have done both. Rustolium then DupliColor.

Now strip it off and do it right. :D :p :superconf :rule:

thanks, heh.. now you can see why I don't want to repaint it gunmetal. I'm going to wait a week for it to fully cure, wetsand it with 1500-2000grit and spray another couple of coats. Its a shame because it looked a little better before I 320-sanded the whole bar to get the rust spots off, there were some flame blue discoloration on the weld joints that are gone now.

LOL yea the cusco box snuck in some how.. I just keep all this crap on a corner of the room.
