    2006 Pontiac Solstice

So what is the deal with this Pontiac Solstice? Has anyone actually seen one? Seems like a hell of a deal 170hp roadster for 20k. I usually hate pontiac but I think the body style on this car is pretty hot.

Looks like Mazda and Honda have some new 'competition' for Auto-X? ;)

I've seen one in person and they are much smaller than they look in pics. The solstice is about the size of a miata. If I remember right Car & Driver (or some other car mag) actually rated it above the new Miata b/c it was more comfortable and better for cruising...but said the Miata is a much better performer

Beautiful cars, they also share their platform with an upcoming Vauxhall I read (Vauxhall Lightning or something like that)...

Some info on the Solstice (im sure alot goes for the Sky too)...

2.4 Ecotec DOHC. Its all-aluminum, 177-horsepower, longitudinally mounted 2.4 liter Ecotec conveys an assured politeness at low speeds, and, at high revs, another realm of potency entirely. Variable-Valve Timing (VVT) alters the typically fixed relationship of intake and exhaust camshafts to dispatch 90 percent of its peak torque throughout an enthusiast's range from 2200 to 6200 rpms. It's torque is 166 lb-ft @ 4800 rpm. It only comes with a 5 Speed Manual for now, but there will be a 5 Speed Automatic in early 2006 as an option. It has 4 wheel disc brakes and a LSD differential and it comes with 18" wheels stock...

    And some more pictures...

I personally love both cars, and I applaud GM for actually building and delivering them for a smidgen under $20k

always hated pontiac but never had a reason to like saturn either...until they came out with their Red Line Ion's which I think arent too bad...but between those two, i really like that saturn sky....mainly because i dont like how rounded the front of the solstice looks nor do i like the grille...

I think I should take one of those guys out for a test drive and see how it goes. I found someone local selling a 2004 WRX STI for $22,995 with 53k miles on it. I think thats a pretty good deal so I might go after that too. My problem right now is there are two many cars I want but I can only get one and I have to live with it for atleast 5 years. The choices are as follows.

    2002 Lexus IS 300
    2004 Suburu WRX STI
2005 Pontiac Solstice (Might have to wait for them to showup at the dealership)

It is too hard to choose, every bone in my body says go for the STI for raw performance but I don't like Suburu's styling inside or out so I would be getting the car purely for its performance. The IS 300 is pure luxury and the ride is insanly nice and the automatic eshift is rock'n but the performance is lacking in comparison to the STI. And the Solstice is the HOTNESS! But the problem is it is a 2 seater and has virtually no cargo room so this car is only really good for driving around by yourself and not with a group of friends. Tuff decisions.

weigh other options, as well...if you get the STi, are you prepared to have disgustingly low gas mileage?
