    HID or Highbeams?

Ok, what's the difference between HID low beams and halogen high beams?
If HIDs are so bright why not just drive with high beams on?

HID are able to focus the light so it doesn't go other driver's eyes I suppose. That and they look WAY cooler than high beams.

High beams are aimed upward to throw light out as far as possible, this is useful in rural roads where there are not many cars around. But in urban areas as if you are driving around the city, you'll end up blinding everybody in front of you. High beam isn't about the intensity of the light, it's the focus of it. If cars with OEM HID has either halogen high beams or a more expensive bi-xenon highbeam setup which uses a motorized glare shield.

Ok. So highbeams are most likely halogen anyway. Well I was just pondering, you know if people say HIDs are blinding them, why not just drive with highbeams on? :p hehehe (don't take me too seriously) I guess HIDs are going to be the best legal way to see better as long as they aren't aimed up.

Well thanks for the info, it all makes sense to me now.
I wouldn't really drive around with highbeams on all the time. I just like entertaining the idea. :)

Yeah, I get what you're saying. A lot of people just buy HID kits and plop them in their car, no projectors, no aiming, just bright ass glare and undirected light that goes everywhere. Could have saved themselves money by just driving around with high beams on. I actually had two friends who did just that, highbeams 24/7. One had a Camero with smoked headlight covers and the other just had a POS Volvo. But it was no worse than some clown with a HID just dumped into their car, or a huge raised up truck with no attempt at aiming to compensate for the raise. Can someone please shoot those owners?

Going with projectors is nice but its pretty expensive > $400 and you have to be comfortable enough to tear apart your head lamps and saw into them. I did this and I am happy and nobody gets pissed comming at me because they are aimed perfectly (used springs and bolts to make them aimable). But some of these kits people toss on there cars are just shooting unreal ammounts of light everywhere and it looks like a supernova is comming at me. Those people get me a little pissed and I usually hit them with my high beams a few times because i think there high's are on but they aren't :) CRAZY. Oh yeah and this one time I high beamed a guy that had a KC light rack on top of his truck, BAD IDEA! He popped that sucker on for a second and I almost went off the road it was so bright, just be careful who you hi-beam hehe.

Got more details on how you made your headlights aimable? That's something I would really like to add to mine.
