Let's tell Toyota what we want for the next Corolla!

I really think we should exert some influence on what the next Corolla is like. While we definitely aren't the average buyers, we shouldn't let Toyota make the next Corolla any softer than the current edition. I feel like since the AE86, every generation of the rolla has been losing a little bit of sportiness. The addition of the XRS to the 9th gen lineup was great, but I really don't think Toyota should stop there.

RWD would be great for the 10th gen, but that's most likely not going to happen. I would really like to see a two door version and I would definitely advise Toyota to bring turbocharged engines they currently sell in Japan to the US market. It would be nice to have a small OEM turbo engine that could be the basis for tuning, say packing 170hp or less. They could also then offer a top of the line model to fight Evos and the STI, which could pack 300hp. That would definitely put Toyota back in favor with the youth and sport markets.

I think that they should keep the Corolla how it is since the Corolla is known as an economic family car and it's always been.... HOWEVER they should come out with a turbocharged - S/C limited edition Corolla or something of that sort that pushes past the 200 hp line, now THAT would be bad ass.

they should either make the 10th gen look like an 8th gen, or make an 'ae86' retro coupe (like how the new mustang is)

They usually bring in cars thasts already in the market in asia to be build and sold in the US. We never really get a "origional" design.

Keep the 1.8 with 140hp for the base engine... put in the 2.4 from the Camry/Scion tC, but a little modified with about 180 hp and 165~170 ft-lbs of torque as an optional engine... and offer the TRD Supercharger for the 2.4, but tune it for 225hp or so...

The Corolla is always the underdog in terms of performance compared to the competition. Even if they made a 225hp Corolla, I bet it would get beat by the SRT-4 and only a mildly worked over version of the new SI. Toyota just dropped a 268hp engine in the frickin Rav-4, so why not a performance version of the Corolla?

I understand with Scion around they may want to have some brand distinction, but if that's the case, they really need to give the tC an engine with a minimun of 200hp stock.

a turbo'ed corolla would be nice...but a rwd turbo corolla would be insane as it's never been done from the factory....I'd trade my xrs in for that one...or at the very least equal out the hp and torque on the current xrs...170 hp with 127 torque...the torque will get you owned off the line...

nah dude that wouldn't cut it really..... or at least for me because hell I don't care if they would charge past 23k hell I'd buy one if it came straight turbo or S/C past 200 hp line... the thing ur suggesting is the current XRS power ranges (except torque) practically dude.... I mean if you're paying past 20 grand for something it better have more power than 200 hp man seriously...

Well if the new Si sells well, Toyota would be a fool not to introduce a more powerful XRS to combat it. They've slept on the compact market way too long, so let's hope they don't do something stupid and axe the XRS.

so when you mean realistic you mean like Toyota lowering the power on the rolla at like 90hp just like the VW TDI and just charge the same or even more for some weaksauce crap that'll just save gas? come on dude I know reality is one thing but hey damn it could happen..... IF Toyota got the XRS out was because people were demanding POWER! and the XRS has sold well over the last year so I think there's a good chance they'll at least bring a S/C out for it if they don't renew it for more power and such.... at least I know I'll keep my hopes up.

Toyota is making a killing out there with the current crop of vehicles - Japanese companies are generally conservative. They won't change what is working for them now.
Look at the current line up - they killed off all the "sport and sporty" cars (Supra, Celica, MR2, basically all the coupes except for the Solara). What do we have coming in Toyota future line up - Yaris, FJ Cruiser, Camry Hybrid, and new Rav4. Even there concepts are more looks and new tech instead of all out performance. Only thing close now are the high powered Lexus offerings (different target audience) and Scion's lone tC. Even then, like the garden variety Toyotas - great potential for performance, but have aspects chosen to "soften" them slightly for more mass appeal.
Perhaps, with the acquisition of the Subaru stock from GM will be more telling in the future. A possible spin off, similar to Scion, with more performance in mind.
We can hold on to the idea that Toyota will snap out and start pressing out ball-to-the-walls performance vehicles. Anything is possible - until then, I won't hold my breath.

Make a comeback from what? They are the second largest car manufacturer in the world and very profitable... business wise, they can't make a comeback because they aer as succesfull as they've ever been... but, if you mean comeback by performance casr like the supercharged and turboed mr2's and supra's... then yes... I hope they do too :)
