My Goodies!!!

These are just some of the parts I have laying around waiting to be put into the car. Some parts are at the shop I work for and I got a couple still heading its way to my front door. This is to show you guys how close I am to getting the car up and running soon. In the pics are my new stainless steel header, wheel bearing, exedy clutch kit, competition clutch lightened flywheel, clutch and brake pedal assembly, hydrolic hoses for clutch master and slave cylinders, and shift knob. I'll get more pics up to show the rest of the pile of goodies I got.


This is my reciept from toyota on the entire pedal assemblies and hoses. Cost was $422. So far I've spent over 1000 just on parts.

What short shifter do you have? A friend drove my car today and said my throws are really long... even compared with his Ford Ranger, so I might invest in a short shifter now.

I went and got one off ebay. I just looked around on what specs they had as info and I got one that decreased it to 40% less. It should arrive tomorrow so I'll get pics for that also tomorrow if I can, but I'm gonna keep you guys updated on the project cause its so close on starting I can almost feel that 5spd. I can't start it this week cause of my boss going to Hawaii so next week we will start installing the parts.

You need to watch out with those ebay short shifters, some guys who brought the noname ones offbay say they are worst than the oem shifter

u should post pics and stuff of ur car when it's done too..... and hey Jon u should get pics of ur Golf too dude...

hmmm.... ya I heard about that too. I'm just hoping I get lucky and it will be fine, but if not I got an OEM one also. LOL new pedals are sweet I'm telling you after spending so much on it from toyota.:sad: Oh ya I forgot I'm gonna post a pic of what my new engine bay looks like after I redid it sometime this week.

Well you would know its the crap one if Reverse gear hits the passenger's leg. Toyota change the shifter assembly in 96 so you could use the TRD full shifter assembly one for 98-02 if you wanted to, I hear TWM makes a nice one so I might grab that when I do my swap. BTW what brand flywheel is that? I like the exedy clutch, it's my top choice as well.

I'll take some soon as I get around to washing the car.

its a competition clutch aluminum lightened flywheel. cost me almost 400 bucks. I was thinking of TWM also, but got lazy looking for one at a good cost so just got one from ebay.

Both the TRD and TWM short shifters for the 98-02 work perfectly the same in a 93-97.

Thats good to hear that it fits so that if I got problems with the one I ordered, then I'm gonna spend the extra cash on the twm.

Trust me. You might as well cancel the Ebay order now and buy a TWM shifter. They list it as only for the 98-02, but it'll fit the Ae101 too.

OMFG! That is the holy grail, that is the most beatiful picture with boxes in it that I have ever seen! Congrats man, take crap loads of pictures. Try to get pictures of the flywheel before and after while you have the tranny out.

Oh yeah one more thing. I installed the 8.5lb fidanza, I think its the same one as you have in the photo. Make sure you have it shimmed correctly when you install it. My clutch was hanging up for a while because I didn't have it shimmed correctly and I ended up having to do burnouts to wear the clutch plate down just enough to where it stopped grabbing and it was a major pain in the ass.

well guys I just got my short shifter and I just might add to the list of people having problems with their shifter from ebay cause this one looks thin and pointed to the reverse position kinda. I'm gonna see how it fits when I get it on the car and if its crap, I'm just gonna get the TRD or TWM one. BTW do you guys know if the shifter cables on a toyota paseo work for my corolla cause that has been causing me a pain to locate to where its not cut up yet.

FIY the TRD assembly will not bolt up to 93-95

that's an 8 bolt flywheel. it won't work with a 4/7afe crank. 4/7afe's are 6 bolt. 4age's are 8

Are you serious? Well this shop I used to work for has alot of explainging to do then. Luckily its not from ebay.

I thought the 4AG and the 4AF has basically the same bottom end? What other options for high performance clutch do we have?

Ya I had it checked out and the the part numbers fit and thats for both 1.6 and 1.8 liter corollas. Is it just that the auto corollas have 6 bolt patterns and the manual has eight or is both just 6? I just might end up spending a bit more and have a machine shop fix this problem and make it fit on my car cause there's no way I'm gonna put a stock flywheel on and it has been a hasle just to get this one. I'm gonna find out more on what to do about this problem soon. I guess when you do a swap your always gonna run into problems and this is kinda major.

um, the shop you're going to ARE COMPLETE MORONS

why would toyota change the crank in an engine based on if the car is going to be an auto or a manual? the crank on all 4afe's and 7afe's regardless of transmission type (because the flywheel bolts TO the crank) is a 6 bolt crank.


sounds like you need to find a shop that has a little more general automotive knowledge

the 4afe and 4age bottom ends are not the same. In fact, the 4afe is only close to the very early bigport 4age's.... in 87 toyota started to change the bottom end to a 7 rib block, and also went with larger journals.... if you were to put a 4age crank into a 4afe you would have to use the earlier 4age crank. (this is something i've considered doing since you would have a strong 7 rib 4afe block with the smaller 4age crank, ie lighter, and could build from there).

He's right on, all 4AFE and 7AFE cranks are 6-bolt, and all 4AGE cranks are 8. I've told you this before

Nice, is that a fidanza flywheel? I have one in my car and it makes it rev a lot faster. However beware I had some clutch mating problems for the first 50 - 100 miles I drove the car and then it went away but that could have been my own fault somehow
