C'mon people, some common sense will tell ya why certain places are targets....after doing some more research, this map is a little dated....

Start with military institutions, then government facilities, then nuclear reactors/power plants, power plants....ICBM locations, Nike missile silos, missile fields.....then areas that are known for high steel production, and other locations that produce large quantities of things that are vital to the US economy....

    You win.

Was this map Cold-war era targets? Or "war on terrorism" targets? If its Cold-war era it would make more sense to me since we had, and still do have, some really pointless military bases scattered around.

Hey, can any one in the military tell me why we have a base in Iceland? I know there has to be a reason. *I'm not being a smart ass, it was a topic in one of my poli sci classes and it has been bothering me since*

They dont try to hide em anymore....most are decommisioned and you can walk inside of them.

This map is apparently from the late 70s.

My guess is that we have bases cuz logistics is everything. The more the better. Its probably a place for military personnel to stop by if they're headed to Europe or such. Same reason we have one in Hawaii. Same reason we use to have one at Midway Island. To put it into prospective, imagine that you'll only stop at a Shell gas station and nowhere else cuz they accomodate to you the best and youre leaving from Boston to Chicago and there are no Shell gas stations on the way. Thats just my guess tho.....

Yeah, that map has got to be out-dated...because to my knowledge, the giant black spot encompassing extreme south easter wyoming, extreme west nebraska and extreme north eastern colorado...there isn't much there. Maybe Sterling, CO...There' s a Cabela's in Sydney Nebraska...interesting base information though.

That dot looks like it's right on Fairbanks. I don't think we have any more around here.
Ft. Greely down there in Delta would be the likely target with the missile defense system. We're about 150 miles north of Delta Junction. We actually live about 14 miles closer to Delta in North Pole. I'm not worried unless something happens, especially at -40 below in the dead of winter. Then we're really screwed. We are dangling by a fragile thread of technology. We're in a natural environment that cannot support the population if we had rely on it for food and wood fuel. No worries though :)

They put a missle monument thats like the size of a long house in my city's park right along the highway.....my city has like no history with war or weapons, lol, so i dont know why its there nor does anyone els in the city....at first we all thought it was there to use our city as a decoy that if a terrorist every saw it from the sky, they would destroy my city because they thought it was a real missile, lol.....
