    Oil Storm

Alright so we're all dealing with the oil spikes....or at least the beginning of it....i hope im not the only one that watched this but some tv channel had an hour special called "Oil Storm" and it began with a category 5 hurricane hitting the new orleans / baton rouge region....but then again, it showed what could happen if every possible disaster actually happened, from a cat 5 hurricane which leads to a destroyed oil rig which causes an overflux of traffic to the port of houston refinaries which leads to two large tanker ships crashing into each other from the tight spaces of the port of houston....and it goes on and on....

Another thing, ive been against bush opening up the oil reserves to relieve the market....honestly, i really just dont think the price of oil is high enough for him to do so, not until we're talkin bout figures nearing the $4 per gallon or $80 per barrel....i think the economy can rebound by itself while at the same time teaching america how to be less materialistic and more conservative...

Conservation is stupid, let your kids deal with that. Use up all the resources you can before you die! :)

the strategic oil reserve is tiny. It would only last a week then we'd be stuck with the same horrible prices again. What we really need to do is develop the ANWR reserve in alaska. They could pull enough oil out of there to sustain the country for months.

Hm. I don't think they should touch ANWR. So many people survive off of subsistance living. Most other people have NO CLUE what it's like there, yet they say we should drill there. It's actually mind boggling for most people when they see how pure the environment is up there. I don't expect anyone that hasn't been to Alaska to understand that. But I do think we should all look at it a bit closer before anyone can say we should drill there.

ANWR is a huge sanctuary for moose and caribou. It's just going to further destroy our ecosystems if we drill there. If they have to they should just drill somewhere else where it's already completely screwed up.

Where's the alternative energy? Why doesn't this administration put an emphasis on that? For obvious reasons.... We could be on the fast track for developing better alternative technologies, and implementing energy conservation plans RIGHT NOW, but we aren't, thanks to the Bush dynasty.

It really comes down to the Gwich'in people, what they choose for their grandchildren. A ravaged earth and material wealth, or sustaining life and nature in the ways of their ancestors. They own the land up there, not some cracker senator. It's thier choice.

I agree totally with you about preserving ANWR.....I think that should be an absolute LAST resort, and even then, it would be a hard thing to accept. I have never personally been to Alaska, but I have been to Colorado 7 times, and its a great feeling being up in the mountains, away from civilization.
I fear that the people that actually live in Colorado take it for granted....I guess the same could be said for those that live in the DC metro area in regards to the DC monuments and museums.

If the earth somehow ceased all oil production, there are currently over 2,100 billion barrels in reserve....which would last earth over 55 years.

The US oil reserve currently has 700 million barrels in reserve...

I can't get much less materialistic - heck, I got 30.7mpg last fillup - and prices hit me just as hard, since I have no income at the moment :(

Yes, the prices are definately ridiculous. I dont really see any real justification either. I hear some are blaming the new hike on the hurricane that ripped through the gulf.....i think its BS.....just my 2 cents

Why do you think it has nothing to do with the hurricane?

    Why is it dumb?
