    I dont like cigarette smokers

I dont understand the entire thing.....they make ya smell bad, they make your car smell bad, your house smell bad......it takes away from your workday...it costs ya money.....your teeth turn yellow, your lungs turn black, your life is shortened considerably, which will in turn hurt your family.......second hand smoke builds up in people around you.......youre polluting the air....youre polluting the ground by throwing your cig butts everywhere......unless you live in a smoke free county, any non smoker that goes to a pool hall or a bar has to take a shower and burn their clothes because of the smoke smell......

    I just dont get it.

your loving this section arn't you... ok so to the point I agree wholely but If I went on a rant about how smoking is bad I would be a hypocryte... I used to smoke and on the occation of a particulary stressful day I still will light one up but just to calm my nerves and get that 'I haven't had a cigarette in a wile' high... but those are the exact reasons I quit in the first place... yes I still smoke on occation but I have almost quit fully... like one in about 6 months type thing...

see...i've managed to convert a smoker to a similar way of thinking to Eric's.

Mike(my other half) smoked before i met him. i'm a nonsmoker who has a pretty severe reaction to a lungful of smoke - it usually has me doubled over coughing so hard i pull muscles. Mike quit when we dated the first time around, and picked it back up when we broke up. we got back together, and he quit again...but the second time was harder for him.

now that he's been smoke free since November, he's feeling it. he's healthier around the worksite, and he can smell/taste things more clearly. now, he can't stand to be around smoke for extended periods of time...and on the rare occasion that we DO go to a bar, if we come back smelling like smoke we both shower.

there is one county in MD that's completely smoke free, but it's over an hour away, so we don't really go down there.

do i wish bars in the rest of Maryland would go smoke-free? i sure do...till then, i'll avoid going out to the bars i know i can't handle.

I totally agree with you. I wish my dad would stop smoking, it worries me.
Basically people start smoking for whatever reason. They get high off of the nicotine and eventually become addicted. It's hard for people to stop smoking because when they do they will be the same person they were before they started. I believe most people can deal with the 4 day chemical withdrawal, but very few can deal with the rest of their life. Smoking is a way for people to turn of their mind and basically excape from emotional stress. So they don't deal with any of their issues, instead they smoke. That's why people get so irritable, snippy, and stressed out when they stop. Because that's how they were when they started. So it's real hard for you to tell someone to stop smoking and face their emotional reality. It's like saying "Stop smoking and feel like sh*t". Some people are fortunate enough to know what's going on and take control of their life. Others are just too afraid to change anything in their life...

Laura, thats great to hear your guy quit smoking! It's good for both of you. :)

i didn't give him a choice. Derrick can vouch for this, as well. if Mike wanted to be with me, he had to quit...no ifs, ands, or buts. i won't tolerate the smell or taste. shallow? maybe...but he's healthier for it. :)

i agree smoking sucks big time. Our house, my cars, and my moms cars are smoke free. my fathers truck on the other hand is horrendous. Anytime he tries to borrow one of the cars we start bitchin becasue after once he brought the Volvo with a shitload of smoke and i had a shit attack. that was the last time i ever lent him my cars. and he can smoke about 1 to 2 packs per day if he gets really stressed out.

"smoking sucks" heh yeah on the cigarette...

ummm yeah i was going to say... ADDICTIVE! once you start, you can't stop.

it may seem like you can, and they will feel like they can, and they will say they can...

i don't believe it. even my friend can't stop smoking. at first he said he could quit. but now he says he can't.

Anyone can quit if they have the right mindset to do it....anyone that says they cant quit isnt strong enough mentally.

didn't you read what i said?

Mike quit cold turkey. didn't bother finishing the pack he'd just barely started when we got back together. just handed them to some random dude at the bus stop at the end of the street, and went on with life. he hasn't gone back since November, and he knows that if he stays with me, he won't be going back. he knows that i can smell it if he'd had one earlier in the day...i'm just that good with picking up smokerstench.

Yeah...youve got to realize that this board is crawling with people that read the 1st post and then hit reply without reading the rest of the thread.

Albys friend is just mentally weak. There are lifetime heroin users that quit....its pretty disrespectful to say that a cig smoker cant quit if they wanted to.

    agreed on the weakness.

after 72 hours(i think it is?) without a cigarette, the nicotene is out of your system. from that point forward it's a mental addiction, rather than physical.

my dad and uncle started smoking back when our whole family still lived in the philippines....since they were amongst the oldest and such role models in our family and since our family is so big, the rest of my aunts and uncles adopted similar habits....now, only two of my aunts dont smoke...all the rest of my aunts n uncles smoke...its horrible just to go to a family get together or some sort cuz all the non-smokers just choke from second hand smoke...

You hit it right on the money. Most smoke because they are pressured into it (peer pressure, family, etc.). Some say it is because of stress or family problems or some other traumatic event. Others just smoke to piss other people off. It is something that has been around probably as long as dawn of mankind and probably isn't going to go away.

Why smoke at all? Unless they stop making tobacco products - someone will find some reason to pick it up.

For those that don't smoke or use tobacco - I applaude you.

For those that do smoke - try and quit or at least cut down. The body's recuperative and regenerative properties will begin almost immediately on reducing intake or stopping use all together.

Need something to help you relax. That's why they make chewing gum. And BEER!

as a smoker i can't stand the smell but i smoke neways. i only smoke at work home is a nono same as the car when i go out to the bar or pool hall i go home and shower. i've been a smoker now for 1 1/2 year and i have notice that i'm more tried then i ever i was. i've tried to quit but it hard for me since almost all my coworker smoke. going up a flight of stairs has now become hard for me i get tired real easy now. growing up in a apartment in nyc and living in the last floor with no elevator was not a problem. but now forget it i have to stop every 5min to catch my breath. i agree with you guy/girls that smoke is disgusting

ok...question...are you an adult(18+)? if so...what lamebrain excuse do you have ot start smoking? quit now, before it actually controls your life.

smokers are disgusting creatures. old smokers have yellow teeth and fingers from that stuff. the smell permanently lodges in their skin and hair. the ONLY way to smell better naturally is to quit smoking...eventually, the smell will dissipate. till then, you're a nasty smelling creature.

it's not the voice so much as the smell. i can't stand it...i've puked from smoke smell before.

...and kissing a smoker is equivalent to swallowing everything in a used ashtray. the one time i did that, i DID puke.

I'm 23 Years Old I Started Smoke At 21. I Started Smokeing When My Grandmother Died. It Was A Very Hard Time For Me Since She Has Lived With Us Since I Was Born I Was Very Close To Her And When She Past Away I Couldn't Think Stright My Girlfriend At Time Was A Smoker. But Never Smoked Around Me One Day I Ask Her For One And Down The Road I Went It. My G/f Now Doesn't Smoke And Won't Get Near Me If I Smell Like It. I'm Going To Quit. My Bestfriend Has Been Smoking Since He Was 13 Now 23 He Cough Up A Lung Everytime But Won't Stop Smoking. I Don't Want To End Up Like Him.

see - you don't have a good excuse for why you started smoking. you started at 21. you're old enough to find other ways of killing stress. stop saying "going to quit" and just do it. it is REALLY not as hard as the weaklings make it out to be.

That Is Ture I Do Have Other Ways Of Killing Stress Remember I Only Smoke When I'm At Work Other Then That I Don't Crave It. I Made A Promise To My Mom That I Would Stop Smoking Because Her Father And Mother Both Die Of Lung Cancer Due To Smoking. And She Doesn't Want Me Go Thur That.
