    I have come up with a dirt cheap OBDII reader! (This method is less than legit so ugh, enjoy)

    Grab one of these off ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bluetooth-E...etooth_Handsfree_Car_Kits&hash=item3f21966186

    This is a bluetooth to OBDII bridge (supports CAN too)

    "Find" a copy of ScanXL Professional or another OBD2 software package that supports the ELM327.


    Done. You now have a obdII scanner system more powerful than my old autoxray ezscan ($300)

    and you just spent. $10.13

    Congrats cheapskate!


    I can view about 15 different data parameters and view readiness status, graphs, virtual dash instruments, etc. I can also use this to measure/guess real-time MPG numbers, log data, estimate horsepower (yeah right), 0-60 times, etc. Going to try it out in the next few days

    Yeah, I found that my old autoxray uses a RS232 serial port... none of my new computers have one so it was time to upgrade.

    There is also android (maybe IOS) applications that read elm327 data too. So, you don't necessarily need to carry a laptop in your car.


    My plan for this is to take some precision mpg measurements. I want to know what is the best freeway cruising speed for fuel economy and how much mpg I lose for speeding.

    I think the answer is 40 mph based on ideal numbers & the gearing on the 8th gen rolla, but I'm out to find the true number


    Next version of the software I hear is going to come with Toyota enhanced OBDII codes, we'll see.

    I bought that in mid 2012...the software they include is kinda crappy since they are like trial software but they let you reset, read codes and basic data...

    I got a faulty one. The Torque app see's it on my phone, but it doesn't communicate with the ECU.
