So my car was pulled over today..

My mother borrowed my car..she called me and said that she was pulled over for an illegal muffler. Since we're moving in a week or so (and the car wasn't hers), the officer was going to let her go -- then some car drove by playing some music (not 'loud', but not quiet either), and the officer started yelling at the other car to stop, then handed my mother's license back and took off after the other guy.

Now..keep in mind -- straight-through muffler *with resonator* at 35mph -- it's definitely not loud! I'm applying for a job as an officer, so I usually end up on their side..but c'mon! The Sheriff's office is running a campaign against aggressive driving..and they're targeting people who aren't even speeding!? Also keep in mind the average traffic speed in Gainesville is 50-55mph (in a 45mph zone)..I've had this muffler on for ~2 years -- had cops behind me..in front of me..sides..etc, and nobody had any problem with it. Even on my one traffic citation, the officer didn't mention tint or exhaust.

Gah..some people need to get off their power trip. </rant>

some police have diffrent views of what is right in their community... that one aparently had a thing aginst noise... some don't like clear lenses... oters just go after any body who they think may be a problem later... (thats a big one around here) lots of poliece work is based on opinion, thats how many crimes get solved, it works most of the time but every once in a wile there is some nutjob cop with too much time on his hands needing to get that extra ticket, those are teh ones that piss me off...

Dude -- at 35mph, my car is quiet! I've ridden with GPD twice, and have driven around/by GPD officers all the time (my ticket was from a GPD guy - who didn't mention my exhaust)..the Sheriff's office must be incredibly boring or something.

If they want to bust noise-makers, go for those cars that are actually making noise -- running to redline off lights, etc..not at 1500rpm..

Heh - from what she told me, he looked a little confused/shocked when she said that she liked that muffler. She was messing with him a bit, I think..lol

Yep, it kind of depends too on the officer's mood on that particular day.
I had a set of the tail-light black-outs on my firebird. I had cops behind and on the side of me for 7-8 months...one cop finally pulled me over and told me to take them off. I never did, and I never got pulled over for it again.
There's a set of cops that'll sit over by my parent's house, and they are meticulous about writing tickets...they'll stop you for 2 over.

Fuck the whole loud exhaust thing, Where I live we have jacked up F350's with Banks Power Packs on them that are louder then our cars would be running open header.

I'm still kinda wondering why he bothered - there are /so/ many cars with modified exhaust around here.

hehe the V8's make the most but some 4 cylinders are just as bad. Texas could care less. they make more of a scene if you have burnt out headlight or shit like that.

eh Colorado doesn't care much YET but if you're exhaust gets out of hand in noise levels then they'll pull u over for sure..... mostly cause ricers around here are the only dumbasses to drive right past a hospital area with their fart cans and well of course around here and everywhere hospitals 24/7 are always under cop watch but again the ricers make the day lol
