Nah, my last HOA and this HOA are both cool.
A HOA attached to a development with condos or apartments is much more strict than a single family home development.
There are no limitiations about working on cars or anything like that. Theyll enforce cosmetic things, but thats just out of respect for the other owners in the neighborhood. We even have armed security that makes the rounds through my development.....I live on Lake Linganore, so the HOA fees include lake and beach access as well as all of the biking, hiking trails.

yeah, the HOA depends on your area as well. mine's just for homes, and they restrict EVERYTHING. washing your car? sorry, we don't allow that. changing a tire? nope, fined.

My HOA says I can't do anything but I've been swapping motors, dropping transmissions & sand blasting for 3 years now and nobody has said a thing ;) It also helps that I have a list of violations for each of my nieghbors in case I need to retaliate.

Im at 2467 a month, and I put 200k down on the house as well. So youre paying 2600 a month for your condo...is your condos value 500k?

I put down 200k on my house.

Holy shit! 200k and you payments are still 2600 a month? Was your house like over 3/4th of a million dollars or do you just have a really high interest short term loan?

House was 575k, with 30yr FHA with an interest rate of 6%. This isnt our dream home, so we dont see ourselves living here for more than 5-8 years. Im already in the process of designing our next home.
Your payments are 1530....so Im guessing your loan is roughly 210 to 225k?

The loan was $201k and we put 50k down. And I thought where I lived it was expensive. Sheesh.

Yeah, that sounds about right. My previous house's loan was 145, and our mortgage was 1100.

Here the homes are much cheaper... but the wages are lower too though... looks like a really nice home though e_andree, congratulations! Just for comparison, a home like that here would be about $225 000... maybe a little less or little more depending no specifics and neighbourhood... but roughly that price... but, the average yearly salary in our city is quite low, it was just over $23 000 a year last year (yay, im above average, lol)...
