    1) disable electric motor
    2) Throw out electric motor/ battery pack/ and cables to save weight
    3) swap in out 4spd ECT to 5spd MT.

I saw a red prius with rims, exhaust, and a modified CAI from a Rolla , and it had a small system and tv screens. the service advisor said it belonged to some kid whose parents bought him the car and let him do what ever he wanted to it if i see it there again(more than likely i will ) i will take photos. he had the car there for an oil change and regular maintience.

problem is the only reason to buy a prius is the gas mileage.. because it costs an arm and a leg more than a corolla. so, if you wanted power... what was the point of buying one?!?

Yeah, modding it for performance is pretty stupid, considering all the technology put into the car is designed to maximise gas mileage. There are drag teams that use a Prius body for its aerodynamics though.

yes, you can mod hybrids. I think it's more than practical to mod a hybrid! When you mod a gas engine you generally lose gas mileage, right? So when you mod a hybrid's gas engine you may lose gas mileage but it doesn't effect the overall "performance". When you push a hybrid, say on the track, you don't use the electric motor anyways so you really gain from the performance mods.

Your post makes no sense. The drag team I was talking about just uses the Prius body, but the car is completely gutted of the batteries and powered by a turbo B18 or something.

actually, when it comes to speed, an electric car will take a viper. i've seen it on the discovery/tlc channel a few years ago, blew my mind

I realize what you were saying about that team only using the Prius body but I'm talking about hybrids in general and how they work (i.e. under full acceleration the electric motor is not used and causes minimal, if any, drag on the gas engine). Hence, around town you can drive a modded hybrid with little notice that it is modded but once you open it up you can tell the difference. Make sense now?

Some of you guys have no imagination, I tell you. The question is not if it's worth it to mod a Prius, it's if it's possible to mod hybid cars since in a few years that's all there will be.

And the answer is, yes. :) The engine is just like any other... as far as the electric motor part, we'll have to see.

I think hybrid cars would be obsolete in 10yrs. Just like the EV-1. Hydrogen power is the wave of the future, more power, less weight, absolute ZERO emissions. 2 motors to run 1 car? Thats BS.

I can think of a few cool performance mods for a hybrid

    1) Instead of nitrous you could use giant capacitors
    2) Paint the car with that solar paint stuff
    3) Gut it and put in a v8 (can you say sleeper) :)

    More to come ;)

Not only is there two motors to power one car, when the battery runs out your running a small under powered motor which gives your no power and worse gas milage on the highway. I agree that hydorgen in the future of cars.

As for alternative fuel, I rather have a turbo desiel. On the Jeep lot I work at we have those desiel Liberties which are as fast and torguey as hell.

Dude no way, I'd rather have a hybrid that ride a bike to work. You know how hot it gets in the summer?!? :)

Maybe not an ugly Prius... I wouldn't mind a hilander or an accord hybrid thats for sure. They at least look normal...for now.

The advisor mentioned the kid's parents had traded in thier 05' Sequioa Limited for the prius and a corolla. He said that the family has pretty much a full line of toyota vehicles at thier home.I am under the assumption they have money.

hydrogen is getting better noticed than ever before, GM , Toyota and BMW are the top automakers working on them currently.the 05' MB 320 CDI is a inline six and has i think if i remember correctly 369 lb-ft of torque at 1200 rpm! but only 221 hp.

I'd rather take the Highlander instead of the accord. IMO i am starting to stay away from Honda or the accord only, especially the V6 version and hybrid. don't want to deal with the transmission any more.if they released a 4cyl IMA system i'd take that.

In a hybrid, you could modify the gas engine as you would any other gas engine, an you can modify the brakes, suspension, etc. as you would an other car. Only thing that is different (mod wise) is the electric motor. And you could always replace the electric motor with a more powerful one, or up the voltage going to it so it will produce more power, etc...
