what do you think of these specs?

I'm thinking of building a new computer.
I tried a sempron/ pentium 4/celeron system at the computer store the other day and wasn't impressed with anything I can afford.

However, the athlon 64 3000 pc I tested was the best of the affordable group, so I was thinking of building a base I can upgrade later, tell me what you think of this setup

DFI LanParty UT nF4 SLi-D Motherboard
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Socket 939
    Thermaltake SilentTower CL-P0025
    ASUS ATI RADEON 300 SE 128MB DDR, 64-Bit, DVI TV-Out, PCI-Express
    200 GB IDE133 Hard Drive
    20x10x40 CD-RW (used)
    400W PSY
    ATX Case

I could do all of that for about $550

    edit:

future upgrades could be like an athlon 64x2 4800+ with the same heatsink.
better video, HD(raid), more power, etc

i've been pricing out components as well, keep getting killed by the fact that i really want SLi which means 2 vid cards.

don't forget that you'll also need to get an OS which can add a couple hundred bucks (unless you go linux)

^^^ people who have graduated, have real jobs, and are currently being investigated for a top secret security clearance... they frown on piracy. i have a free copy i downloaded in college... but i can't use it for business purposes nor can i install it on a second machine. i can get a free copy from my company's alliance with MS... but i can't install that on a personal computer since it would be using a business resouce for personal gain.

in the real world, there are consequences. you learn that after graduation.

actually, i get a free copy for home use. my college has a volume license key for win2000 and xp, they provide you with the key and an installation CD. they allow you to use it for home use on your personal computer. it is provided to you free of cost if you take an IT/computer class. it is a full copy of windows xp pro or windows 200 pro (upgrade or full edition). they also give away window 2003 server and several builds of linux. they have an alliance with microsoft and provide other software such as visual studio...

i got my home use copy from the university, but it's already been installed on another comp that is still in daily use so i can't install it on a new one. and since i've graduated, i can't get a new copy from the college... and the one from my company is actually government controlled, so i can't use it for non-government business without breaking a federal law. thus, my outlets for legal free copies are non-existant.

    gentoo and fedora for me.
