Somebody sell me a celica gt ecu

    I want to adapt one to work with my rolla. I want the higher redline, more aggressive fuel curves and timing.

    i though ppl said you cant use the celica ecu:confused:

    reading a couple of old threads.....

    upgrading the ecu does it add the 15 extra HP the celica 1zz has?

    The extra 15 horsepower up from what I have is due to the short runner intake manifold, larger throttle body, 1mm larger valves, less restrictive exhaust system and the ecu tuning.

    no im asking if upgrading the corolla 1zz ecu to the celica 1zz ecu will it give the corolla the extra 15hp the celica 1zz has?

    isinit the same engine? 1zz-fe? where does the additional 15hp come from? it cant just be from the bigger throttle body the celica 1zz has...

    I just listed where the horsepower comes from. The engines are not the same. The celica has the 1zz-fed. But yes, changing the ecu to the celica's will net you some horsepower, but the higher redline will really improve acceleration.

    we are working on getting quicks car to run the celica ecu soon, very soon lol as for the 1zz-fed, it has lighter rods, different ecu tuning, etc. its kinda the same but not exactly

    Hahaha love horsepower adding body kits :p but yeah the celica's engine is a little different than ours. Yep, hopefully we can successfully adapt it and haul ass lol.

    cBass, it is the same engine. The celica and mr2-s were tuned to be more "sporty" and have different power curves and intake manifold set ups. They also have a different exhaust header design which aids in the HP gain. Simply swapping in a celica ECU will not net you anything, it will simply change the power curve and distribution. If you swap in an intake manifold, and get an after market header or port the stock header, you will potentially see a gain of 15hp if you are lucky. This also depends on the age of the car. If you have a car with 150k+ miles, your gains will be more like 5hp at the wheels with drive train loss and component aging. The internals are identical, only the timing, intake, and exhaust were tuned. The engines were produced by the millions, its easier to tune an exhaust after you make an engine than change the internals in 200k+ cars


    The stock corolla power curve is set to have plenty of low end torque and power for city driving, the celica/mr2-s timing is set to have more mid-high end power for "sporty" driving. You can also get a CEL, and rich/lean problems if you aren't careful so you should probably get an a/f gauge to double check.

    The block is the same, intake manifold is different, throttle body is different, exhaust manifold is different, rods are different, pistons are different, valves are larger and the ecu is different. Changing the ecu will give you some power not only because it responds better to bolt ons, but it is tuned for more power. It's a good thing my motor only has 35K on it.

    the internals are the same. don't kid yourself. Just like the internals on the scion TC are the same as a 4cyl camry. They don't make specialized engines anymore, they set a robot to make 25 million of the same engine and just tune the intake/exhaust for more "sport"


    trust me, I worked at toyota for 4 years.

    Not true. The Celica has lighter cast rods compared to the Corolla's forged. As stated before, the valves and pistons are different as well. Toyota made the celica a higher revving sporty car while the corolla was made for low end torque and economy.

    With the introduction of vvti and upgraded ECU systems, it enabled toyota to tune engines differently to get more "sport" out of them for "sport" models. There is nothing done with the interior of the engines. Simply, tuned to get more power at different power bands.


    Think of it like this. On a wrx you can get an Cobb Accessport and swap the engine maps to a stage 2 tune and get some more power and higher rev limit out of the engine on stock internals. Simply by changing the map. Toyota did the same thing with the celica 1zz's and mr2 1zz's. Tuned the engine to get a higher rev limit, more "sporty" power maps.


    Its true, the celica and mr2 are more "tuner" friendly, but thats because more tuners are focusing on them more than a corolla so there are more parts that fit on them (CAI, Headers, ect), but every single internal part on a celica/mr2 and corolla 1zzfe with vvti are the exact same part.

    im sorry man, but the celica and corolla engine do have diffrent internals. there was some on TN that pulled apart both engines and posted up the specs on each. wasnt it you at one point that said the celica TB/IM wouldnt fit the 8thgen?
    and also are you trying to say the wrx and the sti has the same exact motor? here we go

    No, the intake/tb do fit, I was corrected. A lot of people tried it before and ran into hood clearance issues, particularly on vvti.net and the old corollaland forums. Don't be an idiot I never said the wrx and sti had the same engine...they are different engines, but are both 2.5L turbo charged engines. I was trying to show you how companies flash maps to get more power out of the stock engine and why toyota simply changes to map and tune to get more power out of the stock motor.


    Toyota doesn't build a performance specific engine model. Period. There is no "sporty" special celica version of the 1zz-fe, there is the 1zz-fe, in all its shitty econo-box form, that can be tuned slightly better to get slightly more power out of it and make it slightly less shitty.


    edit: I think the JDM spec 1zz had the lighter cast rods you are talking about, but those werent marketed for import. Your 1zz was made at Nummi, and all 1zz's from Nummi were the shit 1zz-fes.

    Okay man, we said they had different ECU tuning, so I dont see why the wrx reference was necessary. But you are right, I don't know what I was thinking when I said they were different engines smh I not trying to start an argument with anyone, so yea you win.
    See man, all we are saying is that not ALL 1zzs have the same internals, and thats what you said at first.

    All us spec 1zz's have the same internals. So yes, all the 1zz's you can buy have the same internals. You seem to think for some reason the Celica GT's have the JDM spec engine with lighter rods. This is simply not the case. The celica/mrd engines were just re-tuned. The JDM spec and US spec are different engines, yes, but you are not importing a JDM spec 1zz engine into the country, nor are you tuning a JDM spec engine so you are stuck with the shit 1zz made in California.

    I was trying to explain how you flash engine maps to get more HP out of an engine with stock internals, which is all toyota does with the celica/mr2 and the tc (from their respectable parent engiens). It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. If subaru wanted to, they could flash a WRX and call it the WRX-S that gets 20 more HP than a wrx, and have it be the same engine. Which is what Toyota does with their engines, flash in "sportier" tuning and call it something different.



    tl;dr, the engine in a USDM celica is the same as a Corolla. You can use the celica ECU to net a little more horsepower if you run the same intake, and have a ported or aftermarket exhaust. The Celica is not a JDM car.

    Only the new wrx's and sti's both have 2.5 engines. But toyota does not use a flash type ecu like volkswagen, honda or subaru. That's why we have to use a piggyback or standalone to tune. Otherwise I could go get a reflash like hondas or volkswagens and run a different tune. Also, if you look up intake and exhaust valves for both cars you will find the celica takes 1mm larger valves than the corolla.

    Did I say anywhere that the USDM Celica is a JDM car, please show me where i said that?. And fyi I can buy a JDM 1zz if i wanted, there are several shops in MD that sell them, so i dont know where you got the idea that i cant buy one.
