Got a place where you can just sit your ass down and watch some TV or play video games? Post em' up! I used to be an avid enthusiast when it came to home entertainment. I never really had enough money to create anything amazing, but I made it work with what I could afford.

too lazy to take photo of the theater room....

large 3 piece sectional couch (about 12ft wide) U shaped.... there's a raised couch behind it.

Room is painted a flat dark grey with dimmable recessed lighting.

Infocus IN72 projector with an 83" roll up screen. Yamaha 6.1 receiver (100w rms per channel)... large front speakers and center channel, 10" powered sub, 3 satelites in the back of the room, BD player and cable HD dvr box.

It's an awesome setup to watch movies like Tron Legacy and Transformers..... (the soundtrack on Tron Legacy is the only one to successfully literally knock things off the wall and elsewhere....)

Ironically we watch most of our tv upstairs on the crappy 32" tv.

yeah.... 83" screen.... actually kind of on the small end for a projector but the room is only about 300-400 sqft... and the front couch you sit about 6 ft away from it.... so it's similar to sitting in a theater with a huge screen but sitting 25ft away
I think it would be a bit of a drive for you to get here from brooklyn....

This is an older photo.... I didn't have a wide-enough angle to get the whole room.... the table has since been replaced by a treadmill.... go figure.

That's pretty sweet, I love the black walls/ceiling. And that's a crazy cat tree, that must've cost a small fortune lol.

x2 on the Tron soundtrack, Daftpunk went crazy with that one. I only have a 10 inch sub hooked up to the TV/PS3/DVD, but I still shake stuff with that movie.

You guys are asses, those curtains are boss status. And the recycling bin is in the bottom right of the picture. The curtains are a symbol of manliness, making sure that when i have visitors my presence is big and fierce.
And i cant help the beer can collection, i drink almost every night and literally run out of places to put them, that and recycling them every week is a PITA.

It's not as expensive as one might think.

I talked my wife into the projector quite simply.... she wanted a slideshow at our wedding and I told her we needed a way to display it..... projectors these days (for HD.... do a bit of research and make sure the lamp-hours on "high" are the same as "regular") can go for $700 or so. The screen we have was a $900 screen... but I got it mildly used on Ebay for less than $200 shipped (It rolls down into a large carrying case). You can also buy screen material and make a fixed screen for easily under $100 for larger than 83".

So do the math... you can buy a ~50" HD tv for around $1,000... but if you *want* a projector you can easily fit one into that same budget.

I know I'm a noob, but why spend $900 on a screen when you can shine it on a white wall? Works in my basement.

screen material isn't actually just a basic fabric. It's meant to absorb the light from the projector, not reflect it. Makes the picture much more sharp/crisp. There's no anomolies (like texture, paint, spots on the wall, etc).

I didn't spend $900 on the screen... I got it on ebay shipped for less than $200.

You can buy just the material to make whatever you want for pretty cheap... ours had to be, at the time, portable since when we originally bought it all we were renting.

I can also STATE that any room that doesn't have a dark/flat paint in it is probably reflecting too much light around (either from windows or from the projector) and lowering the quality of your 'experience' quite a bit.... Same projectors/screen but at this house it's SO much better than it was at the previous 2 rentals we had.

Well I know you didn't spend $900 on it, but you could. It looks like your screen fabric is wavy, does that make a difference?

that's because it's not fixed..... it has an extendable arm behind it that holds the top of the screen up.

the only time I notice anything is if a cat is walking behind it. Being that the room is pretty darn dedicated I really should do something a bit more permanent...

but as it is we probably only use it like 2 or 3 times a month.... (sometimes more, sometimes less)
